International football is finally back! After an exciting and engaging set of games at UEFA Euro 2024, players have donned their National team kits yet again. The fourth edition of the UEFA Nations League kicked off as Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy all took part in the action. As Round 1 got underway, Italy managed to steal all the headlines with an impressive win over France.

Contrary to the final score line, France had the ‘best’ start to a game at the Parc des Princes. Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola found the net in the very first minute of the game. The stadium went berserk as the youngster continued his goal-scoring streak after an impressive set of games with PSG. However, France’s joy was short-lived when Italy upped the ante.

The 30th minute was witness to an amazing team goal as Federico Dimarco unleashed a brilliant volley with the outside of his foot. Furthermore, the assist matched the goal as Newcastle United man Sandro Tonali found the full-back unmarked with an exquisite flick.

Two more goals from Davide Frattesi and Giacomo Raspadori sealed the deal for Luciano Spalletti‘s men on the night. Needless to say, it was a night to cherish for the Italian team, who’ll look to recover from their previous woes.

Didier Deschamps disappointed with France as Luciano Spalletti praises Sandro Tonali for brilliant return

Italy were no match for Les Bleus, as the men in white put three goals past Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Parc des Princes. After a significant sabbatical from the National team, Sandro Tonali’s return to the big stage did not go unnoticed. His brilliant assist for Italy’s equalizer and dominant display in midfield attracted praise from his head coach.

Following the game, Spalletti stated that he had no doubts whatsoever as to Tonali’s return to form and that he was brilliant against Les Bleus. However, the same cannot be said for Didier Deschamps‘ side, as his men failed to get back to winning ways after a frustrating tournament at the Euros. A defensive collapse in the second half coupled with their lack of open play goals made many fans criticize the manager.

France only have themselves to blame as individual errors costed them the game. A misplaced pass in midfield led to Italy’s second goal while William Saliba failed to react in time for the third. As things stand, France have only won three of their last seven games and has only managed to score two open play goals in the meanwhile.
