At UFC 271, Jared Cannonier proved to the world that you’re never late to perform to your level best and get a title shot. At 37 years of age and with an experience of 20 professional bouts, Cannonier just brutally beat his opponent Derek Brunson in the second round to finish the fight with a performance worthy TKO. Alongside, Cannonier’s performance, his callout for the next fight couldn’t have gone any better.
He made sure UFC President Dana White heard him asking for the title shot loud and clear, when he called White out for looking away in conversation with someone. But nevertheless, the world by now, must be resonating with the name Jared Cannonier with the hottest faces of the UFC. As for the title shot itself, UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya defended his title in the main event of UFC 271 in a rematch against Robert Whittaker and is therefore “open to fight some fresh blood” which includes someone he never fought, like that of Cannonier.

MMA Fighting‘s The MMA Hour hosted by Ariel Helwani brought in Cannonier for an interview in which he talked about his fight with Derek Brunson and how he feels that the title shot is enough with Adesanya also calling his name out, added to it Cannonier also gave his own thoughts on the main event of UFC 271.
“I thought Izzy looked just like he always does you know,” said Cannonier “Very smart, very tactical…and his corner’s always there to reinforce his abilities, so um, it’s a dream team it is what it is you know. But again, I have to watch it again with a more analytical eye to see all the small things, small variances in the fight that go on, I hear a lot of people think it went the other way…
But I gotta agree with in his post fight conference you got to take the hard pill you can’t just do enough or do what you think is enough as far as championship fights. I feel you got to go in there and take it but again, I don’t know, I will have to go back and watch it,” said Cannonier.
