Roberto Bautista Agut
Roberto Bautista Agut is currently serving out his quarantine in Melbourne ahead of the Australian Open which commences on February 8. However, in spite of several efforts from the Victorian government and Tennis Australia, players are unhappy over the quarantine facilities provided to them.
Players have complained about food, expressed frustration over trainings getting canceled. In an interview via a mobile phone, Agut started out by saying, “It’s like to be in the jail,” referring to staying in the bubble. The Spaniard has blamed the Victorian government for everything.
The top three male and female ranked players alongside Serena Williams and their respective hitting partners are quarantining in Adelaide. This has been cause of many players resentment who are given separate facilities in Melbourne. Moreover, many players are subject to hard quarantine for 14 days and will not be allowed to practice because of positive cases on their respective flights.
It’s a complete disaster: Agut on quarantine facilities
Bautista Agut is generally a soft spoken person and is very selective with his words. However, the Spaniard hit out at the quarantine facilities provided to them by the authorities and blamed the Victorian government for the mishap. He even stated that the Wifi in his room was weak.
“These people has no idea about tennis, about practise courts, has no idea about anything,” Roberto said. “So, it’s a completely disaster because of the control of everything. It’s not Tennis Australia, it’s the people from the government,” he said.
“I did work in the room but it’s not the same,” he continued. “My hours feeling very very tight, and I cannot imagine they are saying 2 weeks like this. It’s really really tough. I [have to] take it easy these days and have to work a lot mentally and be patient,” the Spaniard added.
