At the age of just 17, Iva Jovic has played the main draw event of every Grand Slam tournament, and thrice she won her first-round match (at the Australian Open, French Open, and twice at the US Open). The teen sensation then grabbed her first tour-level title of her career- the Guadalajara Open, a WTA 500 event, by going past Emiliana Arango in straight sets.

The American ace recently sat for an interview with Clay and was asked about the players she feels comfortable with while on the tour. One of the players Jovic mentioned was compatriot Coco Gauff. Jovic was then asked if she ever got advice from the two-time Grand Slam singles champion that stuck with her.

They do give advice, and it usually comes down to not getting too upset over one match or one result. They tell me there are so many tournaments, so much time, and that I just have to keep working to get better every day.

Gauff has had ups and downs so far this season because, even though she won two Big Titles (the French Open and the Wuhan Open), she also made early exits in several tournaments. Apart from Paris and Wuhan, Gauff also played the finals of the Madrid Open and the Italian Open, losing both to Aryna Sabalenka and Jasmine Paolini.

It’s not easy. Not because of the pressure, but because I really love winning and I don’t like losing. Every time I lose, it’s tough for me, and I definitely can’t sleep well that night. But there are so many matches ahead of me – wins and losses will both come. I know I can’t afford to ride that emotional rollercoaster all the time; otherwise, I’ll drive myself crazy.

Jovic was seen in action at the Wuhan Open, where Katerina Siniakova knocked her out in straight sets in the fourth round. Prior to winning her first WTA title, she reached the third round of a WTA event for the first time when she beat Linda Noskova at the Cincinnati Masters.

Iva Jovic reveals what she wants to ask Novak Djokovic

Iva Jovic grew up watching Novak Djokovic, but now, they know each other, as Jovic also had a conversation with the most successful ATP player. During that interview with CLAY, Jovic was asked what are the questions she wants to ask the 24-time Grand Slam champion. The teenager said that she wrote the questions on her phone, joking that the moment she interacts with the former World No.1, her mind will go blank.

Exactly what we’ve been talking about now – how he reacts after a loss, what goes through his mind. Also, I want to ask about meditation, breathing techniques, and things like that. More mental stuff – we all know he’s a master at that.

Djokovic is in Riyadh for the Six Kings Slam exhibition event and will play his first match on October 16 against Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. Last year, he lost to Sinner in three sets in the semifinals of the Riyadh event.

Djokovic trails 4-6 in the head-to-head matchups with the four-time Grand Slam champion and also lost in straight sets when they played each other in the semifinals of the French Open and Wimbledon this year. Before arriving in Riyadh, both Sinner and Djokovic played the Shanghai Masters, where the former was forced to give a walkover to Tallon Griekspoor in the third round due to cramps, failing to defend his title.

Djokovic suffered a straight-set defeat to eventual winner Valentin Vacherot in the semifinals. He will skip the Paris Masters and instead will play an ATP 250 event in Athens in November. He has so far claimed only the Geneva Open this year.
