UFC Middleweight Derek Brunson is back in action at UFC 271, riding on his five-fight winning streak to make it six, when he fights #3, ranked middleweight Jared Cannonier who’s 4-1 in his last five fights. This is the co-main event deciding who gets the next title shot. The main event on the other hand is headlined by a title fight between the current champion Israel Adesanya and the preceding champion Robert Whittaker.
Brunson is a Strikeforce-UFC veteran having fought for Strikeforce four times before it was acquitted by the UFC in 2012. Since then, Brunson has had significant victories over the likes of Chris Leben, Ed Herman, Sam Alvey, Uriah Hall, Lyoto Machida, Edmen Shahbazyan, Kevin Holland and Darren Till. Cannonier on the other hand is a former UFC heavyweight as well as a light heavyweight who eventually dropped down and found his right calling at the middleweight.
Derek Brunson thinks Robert Whittaker will come out to make necessary adjustments
In a pre-fight media scrum of UFC 271, Brunson showed up to answer a bunch of questions and therefore also let his official prediction of the main event middleweight title fight let be known to the MMA community.
