Robbers stole $1 million worth of items from Ja Morant's home in December
Over the past year, a few athletes have seen their homes becoming the target of burglars. The situation was not just confined to one sport as those robbers targeted those players who are known to have valuables at their homes. Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant is one of them.
In early November, a break-in at Bobby Portis‘ house left him without many of his prized possessions. He pleaded with the public to help him get any form of information. But so far, nothing materialized from that as authorities kept looking.
After that, such robberies shook the NFL world when the likes of Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce‘s homes were targeted. In every situation, the pattern was the same. Those robbers targeted the homes only when the said player was playing a game.
That usually means not only is the player not at his house, but their entourage is also at their place of work to cheer them on. The robbers target that timeframe to gain easy access to valuables. That is exactly how Ja Morant became a victim as TMZ Sports reported.
Ja Morant had more than $1 million worth of items taken from his home back in December … with the Memphis Grizzlies superstar getting hit in the same burglary sting that affected Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow and more.
TMZ revealed
The publication got a hold of his name after the now unsealed federal complaint revealed it. He was athlete no. 6 in that list which also included Mahomes, Burrow and Kelce as officers cracked down on the suspects.
Robbers targeted Ja Morant’s house before Christmas
A patrol officer in Ohio flagged down a car carrying three suspects. When he found LSU and Cincinnati Bengals gear, he became suspicious and arrested them. That started the investigations that led to authorities cracking down on the gang.
Ja Morant was playing against the Golden State Warriors at FedExForum on December 20th. At that time, officers got a call about a burglary and responded. However, they kept his name out of the charge sheet and just mentioned that it was a Memphis Grizzlies player.
TMZ did not clarify if authorities have managed to recover the items Morant lost. They did manage to recover some of what Joe Burrow lost in that traffic stop. But it is not known if the seven charged so far are the only members of the gang.
Authorities charged them with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property. They could face a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail. Leagues have advised players to stay alert, even if they have caught the offenders.
