The NBA Dunk contest was in full flow on Saturday night, just a day before the main All-Star event. Notably, Mac McClung, a guard for the Orlando Magic G League, became the first player in NBA history to win three consecutive Slam Dunk Contest titles. Given that, anything related to ‘dunking’ had to bring out a reaction from NBA star Ja Morant, and it did.

In the final round, the 6-foot-2 guard defeated youngster Stephon Castle of the San Antonio Spurs with two consecutive 50s, giving him four perfect 50s for the evening. This season, McClung has made 29 appearances with Orlando’s G League club, the Osceola Magic, averaging 21.1 points and 5.4 assists. In addition, Morant had a wholesome reaction to McClung’s winning moment.

Mac might make me decide to dunk.

In a follow-up post, the Grizzlies star addressed Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon and Sacramento Kings guard Zach LaVine. In 2016, Gordon and LaVine engaged in one of the most memorable Dunk Contest contests ever. Gordon lost a fight that lasted to several extra rounds before LaVine, who was then with the Minnesota Timberwolves, emerged victorious.

As for McClung, the former G League scoring champion has only made five NBA appearances in his career. He has spent the last three years making an impression on the All-Star Saturday Night stage. Following the competition, McClung informed the TNT presenter that this might be his final participation in the Dunk Contest.

Giannis Antetokounmpo chimes in on Ja Morant’s recent social media plea

Memphis Grizzles star man Ja Morant surely knows how to get the fans and his fellow NBA rivals alive. After the NBA Dunk contest concluded, Morant took to X to talk about a Dunk contest involving him and other NBA stars. This was after watching Mac McClung clinch the dunk contest title for the 3rd time. Interestingly, another NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo chimed in on this.

If you (Ja Morant) do it. I’ll do it with you.

Since Morant is one of the NBA’s most dynamic players, there would certainly be a lot of expectation if he participated in the Slam Dunk Contest. Currently in the middle of his sixth season, the two-time NBA All-Star has played all his career for the Grizzlies. With Antetokounmpo engaging, this ‘Dunk contest’ will likely be the season’s high point and a spectacle for NBA fans if it happens.
