The Memphis Grizzlies were supposed to be focused on building a team around superstar guard Ja Morant so that they could contend for the NBA championship.
Quite a bit of time has passed since the Morant-led Grizzlies have been anywhere close to being competitive. After finishing second in the West twice, the team has been in a downward spiral.
Off-court incidents led to suspensions. Then, upon returning from his last one, the Murray State alum needed surgery, which effectively ended his 2023-24 season.
Last campaign, the injury bug bit him again, and he played in all of 50 games. As the Grizzlies went through a coaching change, even though they were tipped to be champions.
Now, after trading away one core piece this past offseason, the Grizzlies are back on the trade market, this time with Ja Morant as the asset they want to move.
Memphis Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant has bought a home in Miami, according to Miami-Dade County property records. Records show that, on Dec. 23, 2025, Morant was listed as an executor of a trust that purchased a $3.2 million home.
Damichael Cole revealed
The Grizzlies beat writer received credible information that the 2-time All-Star had invested $3.2 million in a home in Miami, over the two mansions he already has in Tennessee. Morant is rumored to be on the Miami Heat’s radar.
Considering how this property is just a 20-minute drive from the Kaseya Center, where the Heat play, this purchase will do nothing more than fuel those trade rumors.
Moving to Miami will help Ja Morant, says Rashad McCants
The Miami Heat is notoriously known for its strict ways, which have tended to rub some players the wrong way. But for Ja Morant, it seems this will be the best move.

Strip club, at your house only. When you come to Miami, you get boo’d up, you find your boo, you go lay up, and you go do your thing. You have to, because those are the requirements. Don’t be outside… You actually adapt to the culture of becoming a guy that is not outside.
Rashad McCants said on Gil’s Arena
The former Timberwolves star reiterated that Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo, and franchise great Dwyane Wade have all found their partners while with the Miami Heat.
Ja Morant needs to be boo'd up if he is going to play in Miami 😭☠️ pic.twitter.com/jZCeR7qhv0

They have subsequently had some of their best days with the team. Maybe Ja Morant, with his mercurial nature and flamboyant playing style, needs some discipline and focus, which the Heat will be able to give him.
McCants also felt that Morant’s move to the Heat would help alleviate the concerns many players have about the franchise, which could improve their chances of landing top free agents.
Former champion also believes the Heat will be a good spot for Ja Morant
With Miami being touted as a potential landing spot, some have concerns if Ja Morant‘s controversial off-court self would be suited to the Heat.
If I can think of any better place, maybe Miami. Just culture wise him refreshing his brand and who he is as a player, and remind people he was supposed to be the face of the league.
Paul Pierce said on No Fouls Given
The former NBA champion, who has battled against the Miami Heat on countless occasions, knows how the culture built by Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra might be the best bet for the Grizzlies star.

Paul Pierce also feels this would be the best opportunity for Morant to re-establish himself as a top superstar in this league and prove why he belongs in the ‘Face of the NBA’ discussion.
