Jack Draper has opened up on his recovery from bone bruising, which he was diagnosed with after the Wimbledon Championships earlier this year. The former World No.5 has not played in any tournament since the US Open, where he was forced to withdraw due to the injury. He’s aiming to be back on the court next season.
Draper enjoyed one of the best starts to the season in his career this year by reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time in his career. He reached his first final of 2025 at the Qatar Open before losing to Andrey Rublev in three sets. But Draper made a surprising title claim at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells.
The 23-year-old then enjoyed his best-ever clay-court season, where he reached the final of the Madrid Open before losing to Casper Ruud and got to the quarter-finals of the Italian Open. At the French Open, he won his first match and also had an impressive run, reaching the fourth round before falling to Alexander Bublik.
It was at the All England Club that injury struck the British star. He had won his opening match, but crashed out in the second after losing in four sets against Marin Cilic. After the match, he was diagnosed with bone bruising. He did well to make a swift return at the US Open, but could only play one match before withdrawing.
With the aim of making a return to tour in 2026, Draper has now begun to recuperate from the injury. During an interview with The Tennis Podcast, the 23-year-old revealed that he took some time out after withdrawing from the 2025 US Open in New York and is now looking forward to the next season:
From there, I took a bit of time but wanted to get back for the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year. The recovery was going well, I had a scan in the States and it looked all good, but then the pain was just too much when I got to the US, so I had to come home and take it really seriously. Take some time out. But now I feel like I am in a really good place, and I’m building up for hopefully 2026 being a great year.
Despite playing in only one match since the Wimbledon Championships, Draper has sustained his place in the top 15 of the ATP rankings. He’s expected to end the season among the elite group, which is a big achievement for him considering how well he played on the court during the first half of the season.
Jack Draper says Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are superior to other players on tour
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have dominated the men’s circuit for the past two seasons. Jack Draper tried to become the third man on the ATP Tour, but an injury forced him out of the equation just in the middle of the season. However, he still cherishes his second win over Alcaraz at the semi-finals of the Indian Wells.

During the aforementioned interview, Draper gave his honest thoughts about Alcaraz and Sinner’s ongoing domination in the ATP circuit. The Indian Wells champion revealed that the two stars have an overwhelming superiority over other players on tour:
Naturally, such overwhelming superiority could be seen as demoralising for many of the chasing pack. I think Carlos is on six Slams, Jannik on four. I think Jannik, the last couple of years, has been incredibly consistent. I think Carlos, up until March this year, was playing incredibly well in all the big tournaments, but there was a bit more in terms of, is he going to win this week or is he not?
Sinner and Alcaraz are currently at the ATP Finals in Turin and will surely be seeking to win the tournament. The former is the defending champion of the event, while the latter has never gotten to the final.
