Jack Draper has outlined his goals for the upcoming US Open while continuing to manage an arm injury. The 23-year-old enters the final Grand Slam of the year as the No. 5 seed, ranked just behind Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, and Taylor Fritz. Despite the setback, Draper remains optimistic about his chances in New York.

The Brit has not played singles since Wimbledon, where he lost in the second round to Marin Cilic in four sets. Instead, he returned to action in the US Open mixed doubles alongside Jessica Pegula. The pair reached the semifinals before falling to Casper Ruud and Iga Swiatek.

The doubles run allowed Draper to regain match rhythm while giving his arm more time to heal. Draper said in his US Open press conference (H/T: Punto de Break):

I started feeling pain in the middle of the clay court season, feeling some sort of blockage in the arm when hitting forehands and serving. It worsened gradually, and it bothered me a lot during the grass season. I didn’t know what I was facing, so after Wimbledon, I underwent several tests.

Draper admitted the injury, first picked up during the clay season, has not fully healed. However, he told Sky Sports that he intends to give his best effort at Flushing Meadows. His focus since Wimbledon has been on recovery and preparation, with the aim of peaking at this tournament despite the lingering pain:

What I had were hematomas in the humerus of the left arm. They told me that if I continued playing like that, I could face very, very serious problems. It hasn’t been easy, but it was good for me to be on a break, resting, and I could do many things.

Overall, Draper has enjoyed a strong 2025 campaign with a 29–9 singles record. His season highlight came at Indian Wells, where he captured his first Masters 1000 title by defeating Casper Ruud in straight sets. Now, he opens his US Open campaign against Argentina’s Federico Agustin Gomez on Monday, looking to build on last year’s semifinal run and continue his rise among the game’s elite.

Jack Draper confirms participation in new tournament after US Open

The Chengdu Open will return from 17–23 September, 2025, marking the first ATP action after the US Open as the Asian hard-court swing begins. The ATP 250 event will be headlined by Jack Draper, who looks to continue his rise on tour. Past winners include Alexander Zverev, Pablo Carreno Busta, Bernard Tomic, Denis Istomin, and Karen Khachanov, making Chengdu a popular stop on the calendar.

Last year, Juncheng Shang made history by becoming the first Chinese player to win an ATP title on home soil, defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the final. However, Shang is not entered this year, leaving Musetti and Draper among the favorites. Tallon Griekspoor also joins the field, while Draper hopes to add ranking points after a summer limited by fitness concerns and a semifinal defense looming from the US Open.

The draw includes Brandon Nakashima and several other notable names, with the top eight seeds led by Luciano Darderi, Lorenzo Sonego, Cameron Norrie, and Alexandre Muller. Additional players in the field include Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Sebastian Baez, Nuno Borges, and the evergreen Gael Monfils. Rising Frenchman Terence Atmane, who impressed in Cincinnati, heads the alternate list alongside Quentin Halys.

Draper, who claimed the Indian Wells title earlier this year and rose to a career-high world No. 4, will look to add to his trophy haul in Chengdu. Musetti, meanwhile, is targeting redemption after falling short in last year’s final. Monfils, still one of the sport’s most entertaining figures at 39, adds extra star power as the tournament looks set to deliver another exciting week of tennis.

The British star, previously sponsored by Nike, continues to make headlines both on and off the court. Earlier this week, he teamed up with American Jessica Pegula in the mixed doubles event at Flushing Meadows. The duo are set to face Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud in the semifinals on Wednesday, just before Draper launches his singles campaign at the year’s final Grand Slam.

Off court, Draper is developing a reputation as a fashion-forward athlete. He appeared on the cover of Vogue earlier this year and has spoken openly about using style as a form of self-expression. “As I’ve grown up, I’ve really embraced style,” he said, noting his willingness to take bold risks, from shaving his head to experimenting with new looks.

Vuori executives have praised Draper as their most significant tennis signing yet, joining a roster that includes Eden Silva and Marcos Giron. Founder Joe Kudla described Draper as representing “the next generation of tennis—bold, driven, and authentic.”

The partnership comes during a breakout season for the 23-year-old, highlighted by his maiden Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells and a rise to a career-high world No. 4 ranking in June.
