English tennis star Jack Draper has revealed what he said to himself in the mirror after losing the second set in the Indian Wells semifinal against Carlos Alcaraz. The left-hander reached his first Masters 1000 final after defeating the Spaniard 6-1, 0-6, 6-4.

Draper felt that his energy was completely absent in the second set. Before the third set, he took a toilet break and gave himself a strong pep talk.

Like I said, all new experiences for me. Then, yeah, obviously after that set went away, I went to the toilet and just, yeah, kind of looked at myself in the mirror and was like, ‘You need to really, you need to really get my stuff together (smiling).

Jack Draper said in his post-match press conference

Draper is aiming to lead a resurgence in British tennis. British players have struggled to make an impact since Andy Murray’s retirement and Emma Raducanu’s decline.

Draper has achieved great success since 2024. Last year at the US Open, he reached the semifinals but eventually lost to Jannik Sinner in straight sets.

Jack Draper set to battle Holger Rune in Indian Wells final

Holger Rune will face Jack Draper in the BNP Paribas Open final on Sunday. Draper is two years older, but Rune has more experience in ATP Masters 1000 finals. He has already won a title at this level, giving him an advantage.

Rune’s last Masters 1000 win was at the 2022 Paris Masters. He reached another final in Rome in May 2023. On Saturday, he defeated Daniil Medvedev in Indian Wells to make it to the final again. If he wins, he will return to the Top 10 in the ATP rankings after nearly a year.

The two players have only met once before. Rune won that match 6-4, 6-2 in the Cincinnati quarter-finals last August. However, he knows that past results do not guarantee future wins.

At Indian Wells, Rune has beaten strong opponents like Ugo Humbert, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Medvedev. His all-court playing style has helped him succeed. Now, he hopes to take another big step in his career with a victory.

Holger Rune on the brink of major ranking breakthrough

Holger Rune’s impressive form continues as he reaches the Indian Wells Masters final. His strong performance will also give him a big boost in the ATP rankings. If he wins the final against Jack Draper, he will return to the Top 10.

Rune became famous after winning the 2022 Paris Masters, where he defeated Novak Djokovic. Many saw him as the next big star in men’s tennis. However, he struggled to maintain that level and dropped in the rankings.

Now, Rune is making a strong comeback. He defeated Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells semi-final, winning 7-5, 6-4. His return is great for men’s tennis, as he brings energy and excitement to big events.

To stay at the top, Rune needs to keep playing at this level. Last December, he admitted he had to reset his career. Now, he looks ready for a new chapter, and it could be even better than before.
