28th seed Jack Draper paid a heartfelt tribute to two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray after his first-round win over Elias Ymer. Murray withdrew from the Men’s Singles due to a back injury but will participate in Men’s Doubles with his brother Jamie Murray.

Draper secured a five-set victory in his first-round match against Ymer. However, he set aside his own success to express his admiration for Murray in his post-match interview.

I wouldn’t be here without Andy. He’s an incredible guy off the court.. genuine, so funny, one of a kind. What a competitor. What a champion.

Murray made a last-minute decision to compete in the Queen’s Club tournament after Roland Garros. Unfortunately, that decision proved regrettable as he injured his back during the Round of 16 match against Jordan Thompson.

Initial reports before the Wimbledon draw indicated that Murray had announced his withdrawal from this year’s tournament. However, these reports were retracted after Murray’s camp made a dramatic U-turn, announcing that the former World No.1 would indeed participate in the Men’s Singles draw.

Despite being scheduled to play his first-round match on the second day of main draw action, the three-time Grand Slam champion was unable to recover from his back injury, disappointing both Murray and his fans.

In the next round, Draper will face fellow Brit Cameron Norrie, who also won his opening match convincingly against Facundo Diaz Acosta. Draper struggled initially against Ymer’s powerful forehand winners but bounced back strongly in the second and third sets.

The fourth set was closely contested, with Draper having a chance to win but Ymer broke him at a crucial moment. However, the 22-year-old regained his composure in the fifth set, breaking Ymer early and maintaining his lead throughout.

Despite Ymer’s efforts to come back, Draper held his nerve, saving break points and finishing strong with powerful serves to secure a dramatic victory.
