With Spring Training only weeks away top players on the free agency are starting to panic. Usually, it’s ideal for a player to sign with a team prior to Spring Training to get warmed up for the season and not do so and slow down their performance and debut for the new season.
Currently, one of the top players still sitting in free agency is beyond frustrated and has questioned the slow-moving market. 2024 World Series champion Jack Flaherty has yet to sign with a team despite coming off a strong season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He’d been waiting for the Dodgers to make a move, but so far, it seems unlikely for the two to meet again. The Dodgers have been quite busy this offseason with signings of top talents in the market.
The top additions so far are – Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell, Corbin Burnes, Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates, and Max Fried. Despite Flaherty being considered one of the top free agents of 2024, he is still waiting for a team to make the right offer.

Initially, he hoped to sign a deal worth around 5-year $100 million but with the current condition, he is open to signing a short-term deal. Flaherty even said he is interested in going back to the Detroit Tigers as he “loved it” there last season.
Flaherty further added that pitcher Tarik Skubal is one of the main reasons he wants to be back with the Tigers. He believes that they had great chemistry and would love to see where and how it affects the team’s win rate in 2025.
Jack Flaherty defends Dodgers spending spree amidst criticisms
Jack Flaherty has recently defended the Los Angeles Dodgers spending spree amidst harsh criticisms in the MLB world. Several people are beyond frustrated with the Dodgers adding top talents from the market one after another with the luxury tax payroll pushed to an estimated $375 million.
It is $70 million more than the second-place Philadelphia Phillies with the New York Yankees remaining the one other franchise with a luxury tax payroll of over $300 million. The Dodger’s spending questioned the balance in the MLB world, but Flaherty believes it would be solved if other teams invested some more.

A lot of other teams are just doing very little
Flaherty noted that instead of attacking the Dodgers, it would be better for the other teams to increase their budget. They are looking forward to defending their WS crown for a back-to-back win in 2025.
