The Washington Capitals posted an update on captain Alex Ovechkin’s injury saying it’s week-to-week. The fans are relieved to hear it’s not a season-ending injury that could have outed ‘The Great Eight’ from the lineup for a long time.
However, Ovechkin’s chase to surpass ‘The Great One’ Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record remains halted for a while. He was on an absolute roll before his clash with Utah Hockey Club’s Jack McBain on Monday night.
After staying on the ice in pain, Ovie headed to the locker room and did not return for the rest of the game. No specifics on his injury are listed as the team vaguely announced it’s a lower leg injury.
Following the incident fans have threatened the 24-year-old on his several Instagram posts. The incident was accidental as Ovie was chasing a puck and he collided with McBain on the ice.

However, fans are not ready to forgive Jack McBain for the incidents as they’ve been sending death threats to the left winger. Even Caps head coach Spencer Carbery noted how he rewatched the video and did not find any suspicious movements suggesting it was intentional.

As of now, the team has called Ivan Miroshnichenko, Ethen Frank, Pierrick Dube, and Michael Sgarbossa from the AHL. The team is off to a brilliant start to the 2024-25 season and they have to continue on the winning streak until their captain returns.
Capitals players comment on Alex Ovechkin’s run so far in 2024-25 season
Prior to injury on Monday night, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin tied Jaromir Jagr’s league record. He’s also closing up on Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record and is only 26 goals shy.
Speaking on the incident Capitals forward Nic Dowd commented how hard it was to see Alex Ovechkin go down the locker room. Furthermore, since the start of this season, he’s been leading the team to wins.

Goaltender Charlie Lindgren also stated how impressive he’s been throughout the mid-season run. He further added how his presence boosts up the locker room as he’s been the team’s “bull” for so long.
Coach Carbery also expects the captain to be back at the reign after a fast recovery soon. Following the collision, no penalty was called on Jack McBain as it was deemed accidental. However, Caps alternate captain Tom Wilson dropped the gloves against McBain later in the game.
