Golf legend Jack Nicklaus has made a bold claim regarding Rory McIlroy. The 18-time major champion believes that there are still ‘a lot of majors’ left for McIlroy to win and expressed confidence in him breaking his decade-long drought.

McIlroy won four major championships from 2011 to 2014. He won the U.S. Open in 2011, the PGA Championship in 2012, and then did a double of the PGA Championship and Open Championship in 2014. Since then, the North Irishman has gone on a drought.

Despite this, Jack Nicklaus believes that McIlroy will win again. While speaking with Golf Channel on his 85th birthday, “The Golden Bear” also claimed that he (McIlroy) would win the Masters tournament one day, the one event that has eluded him.

The Masters, I still firmly believe Rory will win the Masters. He’s just too good not to you know. I love Roy McIlroy. I think he’s a great person. He’s a great, great guy; as talented player as there is out there, and he’s got a lot more majors in him.

Jack Nicklaus said

McIlroy came close to ending his drought last year at the U.S. Open in Pinehurst. After 14 holes, the 35-year-old was in the driving seat and seemed destined to take home the title.

Unfortunately for him, he slipped up. McIlroy made three bogeys in the final four holes, which opened the doors for LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau. McIlroy eventually finished the tournament one-shot behind DeChambeau and missed out on major glory once again.

As for the Masters Tournament, the closest he came to winning was in 2022 when he finished as the runner-up to Scottie Scheffler. A victory at the Augusta National would complete the career grand slam for McIlroy.

Rory McIlroy recently praised Greg Norman for his role as LIV Golf CEO

One of the biggest developments in recent days regarding the sport of golf was the departure of Greg Norman. The two-time major champion stepped down from his post as the CEO of LIV Golf and was replaced by Scott O’Neil. Rory McIlroy, who once was a big critic of LIV, praised the efforts of Norman as the CEO.

Speaking at a press conference during the Hero Dubai Desert Classic last week, McIlroy commended Norman for his role.

Greg took a lot of flack the first couple of years. He is probably one of the only guys in golf who could have taken on that role. He got it off the ground, and you have to commend him for that. Now it’s time for someone with a bit more experience to take over.

The 26-time PGA Tour also pointed out that by the way things were going for them (LIV Golf), he does not think that they are going away anywhere soon. After the merger deal between the PGA Tour and PIF was announced in June 2023, there were some rumors that LIV Golf might not exist in the near future.

Norman joined as the CEO of LIV Golf in 2021. Since then, he made some big moves which saw the breakaway tour attract some top PGA Tour stars. What the future holds for him now is the big question. The “Great White Shark” has expressed that he will remain with the league and help in other operations.
