Scottie Scheffler claimed his 16th PGA Tour win this Sunday as he won the Memorial Tournament. Following his win, 18-time major champion and tournament host, Jack Nicklaus dropped a major take which left some golf fans stunned.

Scheffler, the World No.1, started off the 2025 season in slow fashion. After a late start to the year due to a wrist injury, the golfer has found his form again in the past month.

He first won the CJ Cup Bryon Nelson in his hometown of Texas before adding a 3rd major title by winning the PGA Championship. This week, he once again torched the field and was successful in defending this title.

After he clinched the win, Nicklaus would take part in the post-round conference. During this, the Golden Bear boldly claimed that the participants in this tournament were not in the “league” of Scheffler.

Looking at the leaderboard today, he didn’t have – I mean, Ben Griffin’s a nice player, Sepp Straka is a nice player, Nick Taylor is a nice player. Those were all the guys that were there basically coming down the stretch. But he knows that those guys, you know, are not in his league.

After a score of 65 in the first round, Ben Griffin carded scores of 72, 72, and 73 in the next three rounds and finished as the runner-up, 4 shots behind Scheffler. Meanwhile, Sepp Straka and Nick Taylor finished 3rd and 4th, with 5 and 6 shots behind Scheffler, respectively.

Scottie Scheffler becomes 2nd player to successfully defend title at the Memorial Tournament

Scottie Scheffler entered the Memorial Tournament this week as the reigning champion and with 2 wins in his previous 3 starts. He continued his dominance on the field and became just the 2nd player to successfully defend the crown at the Memorial Tournament.

This event was one of the 7 wins on the PGA Tour that Scheffler had last season. He won the tournament last year by 1 stroke. This time he had a comfortable lead and wrapped up the title with a score of 10-under 278.

He thus became the first player after 15-time major champion Tiger Woods to go back-to-back in this event. Woods, a 5-time winner of this tournament, went back-to-back-to-back in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

With 3 wins from his previous 4 starts, Scheffler has once again climbed to the top of the FedEx Cup rankings. The win in this event brought him another 700 FedEx Cup points.

This brings his total earnings in the past month to around $10 million. Following wins at the CJ Cup Bryon Nelson ($1,782,000), and the PGA Championship ($3,420,000) alongside a T4 finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge ($427,500), Scheffler has raked up $9,629,500 in prize money from his performances in the month of May.

With him not in the field for the RBC Canadian Open next week, Scheffler’s next start will be at the U.S. Open at Oakmont. He will be aiming to continue this hot form and try to complete the third leg of the career grand slam.
