He thus broke the record of the biggest contract offered in MLB which was held by Mike Trout. His former teammate had signed a 12-year $426.5 million contract extension.

Just a year later, Soto shattered that record. The former San Diego Padres star signed with the New York Mets on a record-breaking 15-year $765 million deal this offseason. This is the biggest contract offered in professional sports.
