Some teams and players transcend the geographical or racial bias that fans naturally feel towards a team or player as is part of human nature. In basketball, that team was the Chicago Bulls under Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson- the team that won the NBA Championship three consecutive times on two separate occasions.
In football, that team is the New England Patriots in the prime under Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. The team that won six Super Bowls over a two-decade span had its fair share of haters and critics but when the Patriots played, nobody could resist not watching them. Jacob Batalon, who played Ned Leeds in the Spider-man series of Marvel is one of the many fans of the Patriots.
Though a Hawaiian by race, Batalon revered the Patriots under Brady and Belichick. He made the surprising revelation on The Rich Eisen Show. His love for the game rose out of the popular football game Madden. Brady was featured on the cover of the game that year and as is the custom, the cover athlete is practically a cheat code to play with.
I'm a Patriots fan you know...for me, I got into football through playing Madden and at the time, it was like Tom Brady's like first three-peat so it was like him on the cover like him (with) the best stats on like Madden and I just automatically wanted the best team...Jacob Batalon said.
Jacob Batalon has a love-hate relationship with the city of Boston
The actor used to enjoy playing the game with his cousins and always picked the Patriots to play with. Tom Brady’s stats were on another level and from the sound of it, Batalon seems to have won a lot of games with Brady and the Patriots. Add the hype and the team’s undefeatable status on the field, all of these factors pushed Batalon to love the team.
Ironically, while Batalon loves the Patriots, he despises the Boston Celtics. The reason is that he is a huge fan of the late Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. If you know basketball, then you know that the rivalry between the Celtics and Lakers is one that goes back to the 80s. Although Batalon respects the talent that the Celtics have, as a Lakers fan, he just has to despise them.
The dynasty was the golden period under which Tom Brady and Bill Belichick made 9 Super Bowls and won six of them. The team had a record-setting 19 consecutive winning seasons, one of which they went undefeated in, and won 17 division titles (11 straight from 2009 to 2019). The franchise accomplished the impossible and there was virtually nothing that they could not do in that span. The Patriots’ record will be hard to beat and is unlikely to be broken for a very long time.
