Britsh No.3 Jacob Fearnley has played Novak Djokovic once. They met in the second round of the 2024 Wimbledon where the youngster took a set off the Serb. Fearnley lost that match in four sets and has now revealed what he observed in Djokovic’s game that he thinks is a ‘joke’.

Fearnley was outside of the top 600 at the start of this year and won two Challengers, including the Nottingham Challengers. He then made his debut on the ATP Tour at the Eastbourne International and next played the Wimbledon. After beating Alejandro Moro Canas in the first round, he set up the match with the 37-year-old Serb.

One thing which surprised me was his first serve. His first-serve percentage and his first-serve spots are not talked about ever. His groundstrokes and his movement are talked about but I feel like his first serve isn’t talked about a lot and his first serve is a joke. Placement, pace, the way he problem solves, it’s a joke.

Jacob Fearnley said on The Changeover Podcast

Fearnley is now a No. 89 as he had made deep runs in several ATP events toward the end of the season. He last played against Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinals of the Tali Open. The 24-time Grand Slam champion on the other hand is gearing up for the next season where he will be chasing his 11th Australian Open.

The one in 2019, when Roger [Federer] had match point against Djokovic at Wimbledon. I wish I would be Roger, so I could make an ace at 40/15. I want to change history.

Djokovic, with a 7-6(5), 1-6, 7-6(4), 4-6, 13-12(3) win over Federer, became a five-time Wimbledon champion that year. Three years later, Federer bade his farewell to tennis at the Laver Cup.

Fonseca, who has never met the Swiss maestro, wishes to have dinner with him along with his father Christiano Fonseca, and basketball legend Kobe Bryant. The 18-year-old, after an impressive year, climbed to No.145 in the ATP rankings after starting the year at No.727.
