British tennis player Jacob Fearnley is making the most of the opportunity presented to him at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. After being handed a wildcard entry into the tournament, the 22-year-old made a winning start to his campaign by beating Spain’s Alejandro Moro Canas 7-5, 6-4, 7-6(12) in the first round. He will next face seven-time champion Novak Djokovic.
While it is not new for a lower-ranked player to be facing a much higher-ranked opponent at a Grand Slam, facing Djokovic remains a daunting task for most players irrespective of their rankings. While Fearnley is aware of how difficult his next match could be, he is choosing to focus on treating it as just another contest.

After his win against Moro Canas, Fearnley stated that it had been a dream of his to play at Wimbledon. When asked about his clash with Djokovic, he shed light on his mindset heading into that contest.
Yeah, a lot of people are reminding me. Yeah, I play Djokovic next, [it] will be a cool match. A bit surreal again. I am going to try to enjoy the best I can and prepare for it as if it's a normal match, even though it's definitely not.Jacob Fearnley said in a video shared by the LTA on
Jacob Fearnley “super excited” for “biggest match” of his career
While Jacob Fearnley has stated that he is not doing anything special to prepare for his match against Novak Djokovic, he did admit that it will be the biggest match of his career and that he was super excited about it.

Fearnely also revealed that his eyes were stuck to the scoreboard during Djokovic’s first-round match against Vit Kopriva.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t watching the scores on Centre Court. It was getting in my head a little bit that I was going to have to play him. Yeah, it’s going to be a little bit intimidating, but it’s a match that I’m super excited for. It’s the biggest match of my career so far. Just to be able to share the court with a player like that will be really special.Jacob Fearnley said (H/T: The Independent)
