Fan interference in baseball is not something uncommon. On many occasions, the supporters present at the ball park have put their hand out to catch a fly ball. In almost every situation, the fielding team are the ones that are left in rage due to this. However, this was not the case during the Rockies-Mariners game as Jacob Stallings was denied a potential walk-off home run by the officials following fan interference.

During the Sunday afternoon doubleheader between the Colorado Rockies and the Seattle Mariners at Coors Field, it seemed the Rockies had a iconic walk-off homer to end their six-game losing streak. However, the luck did not seem to be on their side.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth with bases empty and the game still scoreless, Stallings hit was given as a double. The catcher though later claimed he was not sure whether the ball went out or hit the fence.

I was hoping for the best... I thought it might have been a homer off the bat. I wasn’t really sure what was going on. I saw the ball come back on the field, so I just thought it hit the fence or something.
Jacob Stallings said as per Thomas Harding of MLB.com.

This led to the Rockies challenging the call, hoping the umpires overturn their decision and give them the home run. On replays though, the fan was seen clearly putting out their glove in an attempt to grab the ball which saw left fielder Dylan Moore unable to complete the catch.

After review, the umpires called out the fan interference and deemed the Rockies catcher as out. This lead to huge boos from the home crowd who thought they had won the game in classic fashion.

Rockies eventually get the better of Mariners in extra-innings

After a fan interference denied them off a walk-off win, many thought this was it for the Colorado Rockies. However, the National League side went at it again and eventually got the better of the Seattle Mariners in extra-innings.

After finding themselves 1-0 down in the bottom of the tenth innings. the host put up some bats and got runners on the base. An RBI single from Ezequiel Tovar tied the game before an infield walk-off hit from Ryan McMahon got them over the line.

The NL West side though ended up losing the second game of the doubleheader by a score of 10-2. This has left them with the second worst record in the MLB this season (5-17) only ahead of the Chicago White Sox who are 3-18.
