The New York Rangers are in a slump at the moment. After a strong start to the 2024-25 season, the team has now lost three games in a row. This run of form has ignited talks of trade with captain Jacob Trouba being the key name. He would later break the silence regarding this.
Recently, team President and GM Chris Drury informed the other 31 teams that some of the long-tenured stars of the team are available for the trade. This includes their captain Trouba, who could find himself leaving the team.
The 30-year-old performances have not been put to his standards in recent weeks. After their 6-2 loss against the Edmonton Oilers, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman informed the Rangers have made it “very clear” that they are looking to shake up their roster and make some changes.

Among the names indicated are Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba, although other options will be considered.
In the summer, the Rangers had been trying to trade him and clear his $8 million cap hit. The Detroit Red Wings had emerged as the top landing spot for him. However, he would block off that move and placed them on his no-trade list.
After the Rangers’ optional practice, Trouba was asked by the reporters regarding this trade memo by Drury. The American claimed these talks were part of “business” and that he cannot control them. He also revealed that he has not spoken with Drury since the trade memo was released.
Jacob Trouba said he’s yet to talk to Chris Drury since the trade memo was sent out to other GMs and doesn’t know if he will.

Social media reactions to Jacob Trouba’s comments
The trade memo released by GM Chris Drury sent some shockwaves across the NHL community. The name of Jacob Trouba in that list at first sparked some wild reaction from the fans as they were left divided.
However, following these comments from Trouba, the fans attacked him. They would criticize his “control” comment and lash at him for blocking his trade to the Red Wings a few months ago. Meanwhile, one fan who seemed unimpressed with his words slammed him and wrote, “Worst Rangers captain ever“.

This guy quite quit on this team should not be wearing the C. I don’t blame him but I also don’t understand why he’s still wearing the letter at this point

“Can’t really control that” says the one who blocked a trade to Detroit in the summer

This dude said “can’t really control that” as if he didn’t block getting traded to Detroit 6 months ago ?

If anyone watches Trouba play he’s clearly not focused on playing hockey.

This team gave you enough money and security for the rest of your life. They offered to trade you back to your home state as a favor to you and you said no. Trouba put himself ahead of the team for an extra year which screwed up tge team’s offseason. NMC’s and NTC’s both suck!

Trouba was named captain of the Rangers ahead of the 2022 season. In recent years, he has found his name as a trending topic for some of the big hits on the ice field.
It now remains to be seen what the future holds for the defensemen. The New York Rangers will take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday. A loss in this game will extend their losing run to four games and put more pressure on the team’s management.
