Barron skated onto the Rangers zone from the neutral line to send the puck into the opponent’s net, but was met with an elbow shot to the head by the “Trouba train”. Many questioned the headshot, but the four officials on the ice did not give any penalty.

Rather, Trouba was given a five-minute for wrestling against Canadiens Mike Matheson as the latter stood up for his teammate.  Matheson was handed a two-minute major for instigation, five minutes for engaging in the brawl, and a 10-minute misconduct for dropping the mitts.

Here are some of the fan reactions:

Canadiens head coach Martin ST-Louis said that “the principal point of contact” was Barron’s head after watching the replay. Barron was later helped by his teammates and trainer to get off the ice as he lay there motionless for a minute.

Currently, there’s no update on his injury except for the visible contact with the head. Barron did not return to the lineup later in the period. Further updates are expected after the player goes through all medical procedures safely.
