Carolina Panthers linebacker Jadeveon Clowney defended Houston Texans player Azeez Al-Shaair, who’s serving a three-game suspension for a hit directed at Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Acting upon a late slide, Al-Shaair’s actions resulted in a brutal collision which saw Lawrence being carted off the field on a cart.
In the wake of the incident, many players have called out for reforms in the rules to avoid quarterbacks taking unfair advantage of the slide rule. Micah Parsons, who has been a staunch voice in this particular issue, and Tom Brady are a couple of those who reacted.
Clowney expressed that there is limited attention on the offensive side. He also mentioned that there’s an increase in criticizing and micromanaging every movement of a defensive player who took a hit on the signal caller. He added that no defensive player intends to do something that inflicts pain on an opponent.

Jadeveon Clowney might just make his grand return to the Panthers’ lineup this Sunday. After sitting out last week’s clash with the Eagles due to a knee injury, Clowney started the week on the sidelines but made a big leap forward by practicing in full on Thursday.
Jadeveon Clowney is no fan of the Philadelphia Eagles
The veteran linebacker didn’t hesitate to chirp at the upcoming team. Jadeveon Clowney noted that the Eagles fans talk the most junk out of all NFL teams.
Joe Person of the Athletic reported that Clowney however admitted that Philadelphia, known as the City of Brotherly Love, stands behind its team.
Jadeveon Clowney has a history of controversial moments against the Eagles. In 2018, while with the Texans, he escaped with an obvious facemask on Nick Foles. He later delivered a flagged hit to Foles’ chest, temporarily sidelining the quarterback, who returned to lead a game-winning drive.
The following year, now with the Seahawks, Clowney made headlines again in the Wild Card matchup at Lincoln Financial Field. A helmet-to-helmet hit on a falling Carson Wentz knocked the Eagles’ quarterback out with a concussion, derailing both the team’s playoff hopes. It sure would be fun to see how the Eagles work around another Clowney matchup.
