The Jacksonville Jaguars have put their faith and now, money into retaining Trevor Lawrence as their franchise quarterback. The team offered him a five-year extension for a handsome sum of $275 million which would make his yearly earnings around the $55 million mark. This puts him right up there with the likes of Joe Burrow and even ahead of Jared Goff in terms of monetary value.

For a quarterback who has a lot left to prove in the NFL, the Jaguars have put a lot of money and pressure on his shoulders. The team’s general manager, Trent Baalke expressed his faith in the QB shortly after announcing the new deal.

With this five-year extension, the vision we had when we selected Trevor first overall in 2021 has become a reality. Our objectives have always been aligned. As an organization, we have consistently messaged the importance of extending our core players and Trevor is a foundational talent that we will continue to build around in our quest for a championship.

The Gm mentioned that the organization’s goals have always included extending contracts for their core players, and Lawrence is seen as a foundational talent. The Jags will continue to build around the QB, who had a rough rookie year with Urban Meyer as his head coach.

In his first three years in the NFL, Lawrence has led the Jaguars to records of 2-11, and 9-8 in the two subsequent seasons. Lawrence will have his hands full as he finds himself entrusted with the responsibility of leading his team through one of the more competent divisions in the NFL. The Houston Texans will be the biggest hurdle in their path to win the division.

The general manager also praised the QB for his work ethic and leadership. He expressed confidence that Lawrence’s best performances are still ahead.

With his talent, work ethic, leadership, and competitive drive we are confident the best is yet to come and are thrilled that he and Marissa will continue to make Jacksonville their home.

Baalke was referred to Lawrence’s wife, Marissa Mowry, and the fact that they will continue to reside in Jacksonville. With this new deal, Lawrence is now considered the top quarterback from his draft class.

The 2021 draft class did not feature the most competitive quarterbacks. Trevor Lawrence went first overall and has since proven that it was the right choice. Following him, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, and Justin Fields were picked in the first round. However, all of them are currently in backup roles or do not have a solidified position as a starter in the league.

In his three seasons in the NFL, Lawrence has thrown for 11,770 yards, 58 touchdowns, and 39 interceptions. He has proved to be a model leader for the Jaguars franchise, earning the respect of his teammates who have voted him as the team captain since 2021. The Jaguars have invested a fortune in upgrading the roster this off-season, and it remains to be seen if Lawrence can take them to the promised land.
