A few months ago, Jake Paul was on track to fight Gervonta Davis, but those highly anticipated plans unraveled following allegations against Davis. In the aftermath, Paul redirected his attention toward a far bigger target, one that could dramatically elevate his standing in global boxing.

That ambitious move became reality when his bout with former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was officially confirmed, stunning fans worldwide. Paul had floated the idea of facing Joshua for months, with many dismissing it as nothing more than promotional noise.

Yet in a twist few expected, the Englishman agreed to the matchup, setting up a blockbuster showdown on December 19th. Following the announcement, rising British heavyweight Moses Itauma didn’t mince words in an interview with BBC Sports as he emphasized the immense danger Paul is walking into by stepping into the ring against a true heavyweight powerhouse.

Jake Paul needs to fire his advisors, his people who tell him to make this fight because that’s not good. Did Jake Paul not watch the Ngannou fight? There’s making money but at the same time…it’s absurd. If he wants to fight Anthony Joshua, that’s not my life. Go on and do it. But if I was Jake Paul, I would be very worried.

Itauma said he appreciates everything Paul is doing for boxing, especially his support for women fighters, which strengthens the sport. However, he argued that earning fifty million dollars is not worth suffering heavyweight damage and risking lifelong CTE consequences later. The match is officially sanctioned and will be recorded on both fighters’ professional records, distinguishing it from exhibition contests.

It is scheduled for 8 rounds of three minutes each, with both fighters required to wear 10-ounce gloves for the bout. Joshua must adhere to a weight cap of 245 pounds for the fight, ensuring he competes under the agreed maximum limit. The fight will stream on Netflix, marking their third collaboration with Paul and continuing the platform’s growing investment in live boxing.

Paul’s first Netflix event against Mike Tyson in December 2024 became a massive success, drawing millions of viewers and proving his significant pull in boxing. Despite controversies surrounding this matchup, many expect an enormous audience to tune in, anticipating another highly watched boxing spectacle.

Dana White reacts to Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua

The rivalry between Jake Paul and Dana White began when Paul repeatedly criticized UFC fighter pay and overall promotional treatment. Paul accused the UFC CEO of exploiting athletes for profit, while White dismissed Paul as a loudmouthed sideshow lacking legitimate combat credentials.

Their feud escalated after Paul pursued boxing matches with UFC stars, pushing White to reject cross-promotion and question Paul’s intentions. Despite their long-running hostility, the rivalry ultimately amplified discussions about fighter pay and exposed major structural tensions within combat sports.

Recently, White told Logan Paul he is willing to squash his beef with Paul under the right respectful circumstances moving forward. White urged Paul to fight opponents closer to his natural weight and age, emphasizing fairness, safety, and competitive legitimacy.

However, with ‘The Problem Child’ now preparing to face former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, White believes the matchup is a reckless decision.

Oh Jesus … that’s a bad Idea. You know what everybody is tuning in for on that one. I think everybody is going to finally get what they’ve been waiting for.

Many experts have commented on this matchup, including Ryan Garcia, who believes Jake Paul is addicted to huge fights. Garcia claims Paul genuinely thinks he possesses enough explosive knockout power to drop a full-sized heavyweight inside a competitive professional ring.

Nevertheless, fans are intrigued to see whether this unpredictable fight can actually extend beyond the chaotic intensity of its opening round.
