Italy’s Angela Carini faced alleged trans boxer Imane Khelif for the welterweight ( — 69kg) bracket quarterfinals at the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, she felt the opponent was too strong and withdrew; Calini later had quite the emotional discourse for pulling out of the games. Influencer boxer Jake Paul, infamous for signing on top prospects for pro sanctions, has lent a hand.

Calini and Imane Khelif made the walk at 5 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. ET. Full live streaming coverage comes at the courtesy of NBCOlympics.com. A flurry of straight jabs rocked her from the get-go. Despite coach Emanuel Renzini telling her to push through the opening frame, she couldn’t. When another shot whacked right off her face, she put her hand up again and called it quits in just 46 seconds. Jake Paul, celebrity boxer and owner of Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), offered up a slot for Carini.

To Angela Carini although your dreams couldn’t come true today because of the crazy agendas that are at play in our world at the moment, I would love to offer you to fight on an MVP undercard, to show the world your talents on a fair platform and not against a man.

Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) often catches flak for maintaining a pecking order of dominating older crops or MMA guys. But his efforts to farm boxing prospects out of Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) in tandem with venture firm Anti Fund or forming the ‘Boxing Bullies’ org to help combat youth bullying is undeniable. Iconic seven-division world champ Amanda Serrano is part of his MVP crew.

Besides Serrano, who last blew out Stevie Morgan at the Amalie Arena, Paul and MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian garner multiple prospects. Ashton H20 Sylve, despite his knockout loss, remains a top prospect who dominated Lucas Bahdi until the last moment. Someday, Carini might be a top prospect. As such, other boxers have taken notice of the cause as well.

Claressa Shields and others react to ‘inter-gender’ boxing at Paris Olympics

Whether or not Angela Carini would join up with Jake Paul is a future tale. Amid the ongoing controversy, it’d be good for her to sign up with ‘El Gallo.’ Paul, along with his pro-sanction club and sports media and mobile-betting outlets, sponsors many routine prospect cards for amateur pugilists. It would be a mark of increased exposure for her. However, the ethical issue of trans boxing remains.

Refusing to continue against a dominant Imane Khelif at the Paris Olympics 2024, she had quite a breakdown. Carini, 25, wanted to fight at all costs and honor her father with the win. However, she couldn’t. Many top proponents for anti-trans participation in women’s sports have taken issue with her matchup and how it breaks dreams. Serrano once voiced against such pairing. Now, as does Claressa Shields.

So they got men fighting against women in the Olympics @Olympics boxing ! I wouldn’t have stood for no stuff like that! That is so heartbreaking to the women who have to have their dreams ruined by a man. Sad asf!

Algeria’s Khelif and Lin Yu‑ting of Taiwan both failed gender eligibility tests back in 2023 and were DQed. However, with new IOC ad-hoc tests and testosterone testing pools in place, they were eligible for the Paris Olympics. GWOAT Shields says she is deeply saddened to see women in boxing, like Carini, having their trajectory broken by a “man.”

Australian boxing captain Caitlin Parker, ex-UFC champ Cris Cyborg (a sweet science practitioner herself), and others have voiced similar sentiments. Parker has spoken out on the effects a trans physicality can have in combat sports. Cyborg once called on the IOC to “protect the integrity of women’s sports.” As such, the issue of trans boxing remains troublesome.
