Jake Paul purchases WNBA and Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark's rookie collectable card
The hype surrounding the WNBA is real. At least that is what is evident the moment the league returned to play its second half of this season. With increasing revenue, sold-out games, and even a strong following, it all points to one player, Caitlin Clark. The Indiana Fever rookie has seemingly transformed the sport. Now everyone wants to watch women play basketball. That said, she might not have envisioned what her fame led YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul to do.
The 27-year-old was a guest at the Fanatics Fest held in New York. One of the prime areas of interest for most of the guests and fans was the player cards section. At the section of rookie cards, Paul purchased a few cards, such as a signed 1 of 10 rookie card of Luka Doncic; then a rookie card of Victor Wembanyama. But all that was topped by the rookie card of Caitlin Clark.
Paul ended up spending $50k on those and a few more cards. But the most expensive one of them was the Indiana Fever rookie’s card, which set him back $14k. He with all the money he made through YouTube and boxing won’t mind the exorbitant price.
But what is surprising is the value of that card compared to the rookie cards of Doncic and Wembanyama. It also was more expensive than the rest of the cards featuring Kobe Bryant, Lionel Messi, NFL greats Tom Brady, Joe Montana and Anderson Silva combined. It seems Jake Paul expects the value of Clark’s card to skyrocket.
Caitlin Clark already setting records could return amazing return on player card
Caitlin Clark has played a grand total of 27 games in her first WNBA season. However, in that time, the rookie has set the league on fire. She became the first rookie to post a triple-double – a remarkable achievement considering she was not that great on the glass in college.
Then comes the single-game assist record and multiple 20-5-5 games. If she continues to play at this pace, she could not only possibly win the Rookie of the Year, but also set a new single-season record for assists. Therefore, it will be one of the most landmark seasons in WNBA history.
A rookie of Caitlin Clark’s impact and play to match that hype will probably help Jake Paul rake a lot in return down the line. More importantly, it goes to show that the WNBA rookie is set to transform the league. Both marketing-wise as well as play-wise.
