Jakub Mensik will be remembered in the annals of history after claiming his biggest career title at the ATP Masters 1000 title at the Miami Open. The Czech Republic star exceeded all possible expectations and proved to be a budding star. However, he’s not done after the achievement in Miami, as he looks forward to more this season.
The 19-year-old maturity on the court has been perfect compared to other teenagers on the court. The youngster displayed a methodical and intelligent style of play that made him defeat opponents easily. He also handled pressure in crucial moments of matches and that gave him the victory over Top 10 stars like Jack Draper and Taylor Fritz en route to the final.
He faced Novak Djokovic in the final, playing great tennis, and made it hard for the Serbian to take the lead in the first set. He continued with the momentum in the second despite Djokovic increasing the level of his game. He came out on top after the contest to claim a 7-6(4), 7-6(4) victory over the former World No.1.
During Mensik’s press conference, he was asked whether the Miami triumph would be the greatest success of his career. The 19-year-old revealed that it was just the beginning, as he’s hungry for many more titles in his career.
This is the greatest success of my professional career so far, but I am clear that my journey cannot end here. I understand that this is just the beginning, I am hungry for much more. When I return home, I will continue to work very hard because I feel that I have a wide margin for improvement in all aspects of my game. I want to give my all to lift this kind of trophy more frequently.

I think it will take me some time to process all of this. Right now, it’s incredible what has happened for me. Winning two tiebreaks against Novak is mind-blowing, and it makes it even more special to have faced him because he is the reason I play tennis. When I won the last point, I felt a huge relief. After defeating Fritz, I spent almost two days without sleeping due to the nerves of playing this final. I think it would have been very difficult for me to win if the match had gone to a third set.

Mensik will now hope to take the confidence into the European clay season. His major first test will be at the Monte Carlo Masters which begins on April 6. After that, he will be looking forward to the French Open.
