Jalen Brunson inspires young New York fan after his clutch three

Friday’s matchup between the New York Knicks and the Memphis Grizzlies was a thriller until the very last second. The highlight of the night was when the new king of New York, Jalen Brunson, stole the game from under the Grizzlies’ noses with a massive three-pointer in the final 30 seconds, followed by a buzzer-beater to seal the deal with the final score of 114-113.

This impressive road victory by the Knicks was bound to inspire some New York fanatics. Following the three, Jalen Brunson pointed toward his head coach, Tom Thibodeau, who was in just as much disbelief as the Memphis fans. Post-game he even went on record saying, “I don’t know what he was doing. I’m just happy he made the shot”

After the game, 1A took some time to give a shoutout to one of his young fans. The host of the KnicksWilding Podcast shared a cute video of his son dunking the ball and pointing toward the camera—an adorable attempt to imitate Brunson. 1A reposted the video of the kid with his own reaction: two “pointing finger” emojis.

The 28-year-old played a key role in the Knicks’ victory, adding 23 points to the scoreboard on 10-of-23 shooting from the field and 2-of-6 from three. On top of that, he grabbed seven boards while dishing out six assists. On the defensive end, he made three interceptions and blocked one shot.

The Grizzlies-Knicks battle on February 28th had some important playoff implications for each team. The Knicks will be able to maintain pressure on the Boston Celtics for the #2 seed in the east with this win, while the Grizzlies now sit at the same number of losses as the Nuggets, Lakers and Rockets. There will be an immense amount of jostling between the 2nd-5th seeds in the Western Conference as things stand.

Jalen Brunson cautioned against podcasting if he’s chasing the NBA title

After the 76ers’ Paul George announced that he is taking a break from Podcast P following the Dwight Howard episode, former NBA champ Kendrick Perkins suggested that the Knicks’ Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart could also use some time off. Perkins explained that since New York has a real shot at the Eastern Conference title, its stars should focus on hooping, as “anything outside of that is a distraction.”

Paul George is not the only person that should be taking a break from podcasting during the basketball season. I feel like Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart as well should take a break because if you’re trying to go out there and honestly compete for an NBA championship, that should be your only goal. Anything outside of that is a distraction.

As of now, the Knicks are the third-best team in the East with a 39-20 record. Since Brunson‘s addition to the roster, the Knicks have emerged as serious contenders. On the upcoming Sunday, the Knicks’ core will test its capabilities against the Miami Heat. Expect the Knicks to build on their two-game win streak in Miami.
