Over the past two seasons, Jalen Carter has grown to become the most dominant player on the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive line. His importance to the squad is unparalleled, which is why missing the first two games due to the spitting incident could undermine them.

He did not even play a snap before he was given the marching orders in their season-opener against the Dallas Cowboys. Spitting directly at quarterback Dak Prescott was not going to sit well with the conduct expected of NFL players, and he was rightfully thrown out of the game.

After the game, he apologized for the incident and chose not to deflect blame towards the Cowboys QB, who allegedly instigated the incident by spitting first.

Thereafter, several discussions ensued over who was to blame and why the young tackle from Georgia could not keep his nerves in check, especially with the season still to play.

There were rumors that the league would bring the hammer down on Jalen Carter. A suspension could see him sit out games against fellow playoff contenders, putting his team in jeopardy as they look to win games early on.

NFL is fining Eagles DT Jalen Carter $57,222 for spitting on Dak Prescott. The league also says the game he was ejected for will serve as a one-game suspension.

The fine is exactly what the 24-year-old earns per game. Additionally, the league decided not to impose an additional suspension beyond the automatic one he earned for missing the entire opening game against the Cowboys.

Fans flame NFL for letting Dak Prescott off the hook for instigating Jalen Carter

Football fans were aware that Jalen Carter would face punishment for spitting at an opposing player. Whatever the reasons are, the Eagles’ D-tackle is facing the repercussions of his actions.

At the same time, fans wondered if the one-game suspension was enough, as even if Carter reacted, spitting on another player is inexcusable. They felt the NFL should have slapped him with a two-game suspension over and above what he already faced.

Then, other fans were furious that the NFL did not reprimand Dak Prescott for his hand in this fiasco. They feel he was equally responsible for starting the new season in such a deplorable manner and should have been fined. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Even though Jalen Carter has overhauled his personality since being involved in a car crash that killed one of his Georgia teammates and coaches, some doubts about his temperament remain. Many believe this spitting incident was probably a result of that overhaul. However, he has a mean and fiery nature that is masked underneath the signature half-smile he sports.

Jalen Carter and his Eagles defense will look to harass Patrick Mahomes again

Jalen Carter had made his name as one of the most talented and feared defensive tackles in the league. He even received perennial All-Pro Aaron Donald‘s approval as his heir apparent.

But his biggest stamp of authority came in Super Bowl LIX when he led his fellow defensive linemen to sack Patrick Mahomes 6 times, that too without blitzing the Chiefs once.

That rematch is set for this Sunday when the defending champions visit Arrowhead Stadium. Chiefs fans will be waiting to avenge the loss of their third straight Super Bowl bid.

However, it seems the Eagles’ defense will have an easier task this time. The Chiefs do not have Joe Thuney after trading him away to the Chicago Bears, and their offensive line looked shaky in their season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Their fans will be there to cheer for them, but expect Carter, Jordan Davis, and the retooled young defensive line to wreak havoc over the Chiefs.
