Jalen Hurts will play in his second Super Bowl after he outclassed the Washington Commanders 23-55 on home turf. Even a bad knee did little to affect his resolve.
The Eagles went into Sunday’s NFC Championship game as -3.5 favorites, but the Commanders’ rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels posed a big threat. Daniels played good football, completing 29 passes from 48 tries for 255 yards and one touchdown, along with 6 carries for 48 yards and one rushing touchdown.
Those numbers seemed enough to win the Commanders until they shot themselves in the foot. Three offensive turnovers—two resulting in the Eagles touchdown—killed off the game completely.
Hurts contributed four total touchdowns—3 rushing and one passing—from 20 completions and 262 overall yards.
Running back Saquon Barkley picked up where he left off in the win over the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round. Barkley contributed three rushing touchdowns on 15 carries for 115 yards. The highlight of his night was a 60-yard touchdown run in the seventh minute of the first quarter, surpassing Jerry Rice for most 60+ scrimmage yards TDs with 7.
The game ended with a unique scoreline according to 33rd Team specialist Ari Meirov. The Eagles scored the most points by any franchise in the playoffs, overtaking Cam Newton’s Carolina Panthers, who blew the Arizona Cardinals out 49-15 in the 2015 NFC title game.

According to the Eagles’ official website, the win over the Commanders was the Eagles’ 10th consecutive victory at Lincoln Financial Field. It’s the longest active streak in the NFL (including the playoffs).
Jalen Hurts claimed beating Washington was a team effort
The Eagles nearly went through a fallout in 2023. Even after qualifying for the playoffs, the Eagles suffered defeat in the wildcard round. Fans wanted head coach Nick Sirianni fired, but the brass kept him.
Sirianni went to work by acquiring Barkley and extending key player contracts like AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith. Despite the departure of future HOF Jason Kelce, twelve months later, Sirianni led the team to a Super Bowl run for the first time since 2022.
Barkley became a focal point of the attack. The increased load on the running back decreased ball time for the receivers, creating a momentary rift, but they stood firm because the Super Bowl was on the line.
Jalen Hurts orchestrated the playoff wins despite suffering from a bad knee. During the award ceremony, HOF Terry Bradshaw mentioned Hurts’ knee and still delivered a perfect game.

Barkley echoed the same words as Hurts.

The next stop for the Eagles is New Orleans in February for the Super Bowl. They will face either the Kansas City Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills.
