AJ Brown recorded his best numbers while receiving from Jalen Hurts. He had 1496 passing yards, 1456 passing yards, 18 total touchdowns, and a Super Bowl appearance in his first two years in Philadelphia.
Brown established himself as one of the premier wide receivers in football and signed a three-year $96 million extension ahead of the 2024 season. His production plummeted to just 1079 yards on 67 catches.
The recent trend can also be interpreted in the same manner. After 7 catches for 35 yards in the first two games, Brown dropped 109 and his first touchdown of the year over the Rams.
Those who viewed the Rams game as a sign of positive change were quickly proven wrong. Brown caught just two passes for 9 yards as the Eagles secured a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Analysts and former players criticized Hurts for ignoring his receivers. In fact, the Super Bowl winner did not throw a single completion in the second half on Sunday. Brown then shocked the football world by posting a quote from Mark 6:11 (the Bible) on Twitter.
Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Jalen Hurts revealed that he will not speculate about Brown’s tweet.
I’m not going to analyze or speculate. I think he’s always wanted to contribute, and that remains. Onward.
Hurts told Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer
When pressed further to disclose the status of their relationship, Hurts had a bland response.
It’s good… We share a great passion for this game, and we’re focused on this week.
Jalen Hurts said he read A.J. Brown’s tweet after the game. Asked for his reaction, the #Eagles QB said:

Brown’s production dropped when former OC and now Saints head coach Kellen Moore adopted a run-first game. Saquon Barkley became the focal point of the offense. He racked up a league high 2283 scrimmage yards from 378 touches on the ball.
New OC, Kevin Patulo, introduced a more physical approach to the offense. He focused on weaponizing the controversial tush push move. And so far, it has worked, as the Eagles are the only 4-0 team in the NFL besides the Buffalo Bills.
AJ Brown opens up about his tweet
Even amidst all the commotion, Brown had not spoken to the media about the tweet after the Bucs game. Reporters caught up with the Ole Miss graduate inside the Eagles’ locker room and questioned whether the post was directed at his coach.

Brown clarified his tweet wasn’t meant for anyone.
My message on Twitter wasn’t directed to anyone in the building. Not my coaches, not my quarterback, not my GM. Nobody. I have open communication with all my coaches and the quarterback… You can use that verse for anything in life. It’s not directed at anyone.

AJ Brown: “You can use that verse for anything in life. It’s not directed at anyone. I got a lot of stuff in my phone. I got a lot of memes in my phone as people know. I’m the meme king.”

Brown, in his defense, explained that he wants more of the ball. He helped create confusion among the Rams defenders, which helped tight end Dallas Goedert snag his first touchdown. However, if Hurts had received better service, then he could have made a bigger difference than just creating spaces for his teammates.
I see us struggling, and I’m a guy that wants the ball in those times. When we can’t find a way, give the ball to me. Game on the line? Give the ball to me. I want that pressure. I work hard for it.
Brown said
AJ Brown: “I think it’s fair to want the ball to get us going. Last week against the Rams, I caught a sluggo, got us going, next play it opened up Dallas Goedert when the safety came to my side and opened him up.. It’s not just for targets or putting numbers up. Brown has played 94 games in seven seasons for the Titans and the Eagles. He has racked up 460 catches for 7177 yards and 50 touchdowns.
The Eagles have a tough task in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos. Despite a 2-2 start, the Broncos boast the league’s third-best defense, according to DraftSharks.
