The Philadelphia Eagles put a stop to the Kansas City Chiefs’ dream of making NFL history as they avenged their Super Bowl loss two years ago with a win on Sunday. The Eagles had no qualms or hardships in the lopsided showdown at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The Eagles had an early majority, which they were able to keep until the end. The defense, led by Vic Fangio, limited the Chiefs to the point where their first play in Eagles territory came late into the third quarter.
On offense, Jalen Hurts shined once again with 221 passing yards for 2 TDs and one interception through the air. He additionally posted 1 rushing touchdown from 11 carries for 72 yards. Hurts was awarded the Pete Rozelle Trophy for his impressive performance in the Super Bowl. After all, he put a stop to the three-peat, although Pat Riley won’t be happy about the major chunk of money he could’ve reaped.

In addition, Hurts also joined a very exclusive list of players who have defeated Patrick Mahomes in the NFL Playoffs. The first-ever to do so was Tom Brady, whose New England Patriots edged out the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2019 AFC championship game. He also handed Mahomes his second playoff loss when Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.
The second quarterback to defeat Mahomes was Joe Burrow. In their magical run to the Super Bowl three years back, Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals overcame the Chiefs 24-27 in an overtime thriller to advance to the Super Bowl.
After the culmination of the Super Bowl LIX, Patrick Mahomes now stands at 17-4 in the NFL postseason.
Jalen Hurts secures new record for Alabama Crimson Tide
Additionally, Jalen Hurts became the fourth quarterback from Alabama Crimson Tide to win the Super Bowl. His achievement has awarded the program the title of being the only one that has four quarterbacks winning Super Bowl titles.

The Green Bay Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl I and II, respectively. The Packers were led by Alabama Crimson Tide alumni Bart Starr. Starr, although didn’t have much experience or star value at Tide, shined in both Super Bowls, winning the MVP twice. In 1967, he finished with 2 TDs, and 1 int for 250 passing yards. In the successive Super Bowl, he scored 1 TD for 202 yards with a 96.2 passer rating.
In the third year, Joe Namath took the underdogs’ New York Jets to their only Bowl win to date against the Baltimore Colts. Namath and Hurts also are two of the three quarterbacks to win both a Super Bowl and an FBS Championship. Namath also won the Super Bowl MVP – the first one to ever win one without personally scoring or throwing a touchdown.
Ken Stabler, who led the Oakland Raiders to consecutive conference championships from 1973 to 1977, won a title in 1977 over the Minnesota Vikings to become the third from Alabama to win it. However, Stabler didn’t win an MVP, Fred Biletnikoff won in his place then.
The Purdue Boilermakers joined the Crimson Tide in 2009 with three QBs when Drew Brees led the New Orleans Saints to a thrilling win. As the confetti showers rained down, Jalen Hurts has officially silenced his critics and elevated not only his but also his former school’s legacy.
