Jalen Hurts gave a savage reply to Chris Jones’ taunting right before the final whistle at Arrowhead Stadium. Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles secured a 20-17 win in a Sunday game that many viewed as a replay of Super Bowl 59.

The Eagles arrived at KC on the back of a win against the Dallas Cowboys. Hurts led from the front with two touchdowns.

However, Hurts and the Eagles’ play-calling came under fire due to the lack of service to their receivers. AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert combined to catch 11 passes for just over 60 yards.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP only had 101 yards through the air, and although Brown refrained from creating a scene, the trade rumors indicated tension brewing behind the scenes.

Head coach Nick Sirianni promised to call more receiver-friendly plays at KC. Brown’s stats improved to 5 catches for 27 yards, while Smith racked up 53 yards from 4 catches.

Regardless, the Eagles’ pivotal moments in the game took place on the ground. Hurts scored a touchdown via the famous tush-push, and Saquon Barkley added one score on 22 carries for 88 yards.

Both teams convened in the middle of the field to take a knee to end the game, but before that, Chiefs’ star defensive tackle Chris Jones offered one last parting word for the Eagles quarterback.

You don’t even have 100 yards,” cameras caught Chris Jones yelling at the line of scrimmage.

Hurts quickly replied,“We won the f**** game. Shut your a** up.”

Hurts ended the contest with 15 completions for 101 yards (80.68 QBR). Jones, on the other hand, completed 2 solo tackles.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes logged 16 completions from 29 attempts for 187 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He further added 66 yards on 7 carries and a touchdown. Tight end Travis Kelce was the only receiver to cross 60 yards on the night.

The loss generated an unwanted piece of history for Mahomes. He had never lost three straight NFL games in his career until Sunday (Super Bowl LIX, loss against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil, and defeat against the Eagles at KC).

Jalen Hurts finds ways to win games

It’s not straightforward to consistently win games when there’s a target on the back. Every other team will play extra hard because they are facing the reigning world champions.

What Hurts does better than most is carving out victories. It’s not always pretty, but his style of play is effective. Through the first two games, the Eagles put up 44 points, which, according to 94WIP’s Eliot Shorr-Parks, is the lowest since Sirianni’s first year coaching the team in 2021.

Yet at the same time, the win made Hurts part of an elite company. The 27-year-old has amassed a win record of .706 since entering the NFL in 2020. He ranks sixth in record QB winning percentage behind Mahomes (.781), Tom Brady (.754), Roger Staubach (.743), Lamar Jackson (.729), and Joe Montana (.713).

That’s the most important thing ever—finding the way to win. Given the competitive nature of the game… who plays in the team, it’s a really good team [the Chiefs]. Ton of respect for them obviously. They come in with a sense of focus. Stay patient within the team, you let things come to you. I think as a team, we showed that we needed to win the most.

Jalen Hurts said after the game

There are still 15 more games left in the season. Anything is possible from now until January. Up next, the Eagles host the 2-0 Los Angeles Rams, while the Chiefs take on fellow strugglers, the New York Giants, at MetLife Stadium.
