The Philadelphia Eagles are off to a hot start to defend their title with two thumping wins over prime rivals, the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles have started 2-0 in three of the last four seasons under coach Nick Sirianni.

Despite good results, the Eagles have racked up only 238 net passing yards and no passing touchdowns. In the passing game and net passing yards per game, the Eagles are 31st in the league, with only the Tennessee Titans behind them with 208 yards.

The Eagles’ quarterback, Jalen Hurts, registered only 152 and 101 yards in their first two games, respectively. The issue in the passing game of the starting quarterback, who barely clung to 100 yards, was quite noticeable. Chris Jones, the Chiefs’ DT, even pointed it out during a verbal spat between the two.

Despite the wins, the dearth of passing yards has been spotted by fans and analysts as a potential problem that may arise later in the season. The lack of such explosive plays is covered up with their own brand of offensive strategy, which has also been on the lookout for bending the rules. Although he told off Jones with a sassy comeback about it’s the wins that matter, he has taken responsibility for not orchestrating more plays.

I take a lot of accountability for a lot of it, and just how we go out there because that’s my job. My job is to go out there and be the general, orchestrate everything, and ultimately make plays.

Hurts told John McMullen of SI

However, he did give a nod to the ultimate result, but agreed that there’s more room to grow with the new team and under the leadership of recently promoted OC Kevin Patullo.

Ultimately, it’s about winning, but we know what we’re capable of. But given this new season, this new team, and offensive leadership looking different, you grow into that. So we’re confident where we can go.

Eagles OC Kevin Patullo is not panicking about their tepid offense in the first two games

Kevin Patullo took over from Kellen Moore, who joined the New Orleans Saints as their head coach in 2025 after spending four seasons as the pass game coordinator. In his debut year as an offensive coordinator, the Eagles’ numbers aren’t very lustrous. They are 29th in total offense despite having the seventh-best rushing offense in the league.

However, Patullo isn’t worried about the tepidness in offense. In a conversation with SI, Patullo admitted that he expected the offense to reach its peak at some point towards the end of the season, as compared to right now.

You want the offense to trend in the right direction, and that direction is at the end of the season; that’s where you want to peak it out… I think it’s an important thing that we go through it now rather than later and we continue to trend in the right direction because, ultimately, we have a great coaching staff, we have unbelievable players, and we know we can problem solve it.

Patullo noted

He added that as long as they continue with the current momentum and win games, the offensive numbers won’t be a problem. Patullo also mentioned that the weak start to their offense would be something in the past, as they reflect on how they had such an issue and straightened it out gradually.

The Philadelphia Eagles are all set to face the Los Angeles Rams, who are also coming from a 2-0 start. The Rams crushed the Titans in a 33-19 encounter in Nashville after a close and slow encounter with the Houston Texans in Week 1. The Rams have the seventh-best offense in the league, and the Eagles will need to keep up the pace with the score points if their opponents’ strategy works out.
