Since the departure of Tom Brady, the NFL did not have to look far off to find the athlete who would shoulder the title of being the face of the league. It was evident in Brady’s final years that he would be passing on the torch to Patrick Mahomes. The quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs made an immediate mark in the NFL, and so far, his three Super Bowl wins and Super Bowl MVP Awards support his case to be the face of the league.
However, his status as the representative of the National Football League is no longer undisputed. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs lost to Jalen Hurts in Super Bowl LIX. The quarterback was on the verge of making history by winning three consecutive rings, but Jalen Hurts played spoilsport in his plans.
Hurts’ stock has gone up significantly since he dethroned Mahomes. Recently crowned as one of the ‘Most Influential People of 2025,’ Hurts is confident that his victory has confirmed his status as the face of the NFL. His victory was well-deserved, and Hurts proved his haters wrong with this win. However, it gives rise to an interesting question: Does one successful season translate to a player becoming the face of the league?
The simple answer is no, but Jalen Hurts is a competitor, and like he has said on multiple occasions since winning the Super Bowl, Philadelphia is just getting started. In a recent interview with Men’s Health Magazine, Jalen Hurts gave fans a detailed look into a full day of eating.
The quarterback believes he is in a unique position. When asked if he believes that he is the face of the NFL, Hurts took a moment before responding. “Hmmm. No. But when you’re the MVP of the Super Bowl, you are the face of the NFL.” While he does not pride himself on being the face of the league, he believes that winning the Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP Award makes a player the representative of the league.
Jalen Hurts may not be the face of the NFL, but he is special in a unique way
It is not surprising to hear him offer a humble response. Jalen Hurts seldom takes credit in public when such questions arise. To him, team success is the top priority, and the freshly minted silverware in his living room does not change that. The most significant reason that separates Hurts is that his personality, conduct, and play on the field make him hard to dislike.

Call it the Chiefs effect or just dislike against Patrick Mahomes, the fanbases of 31 NFL teams united to collectively root for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. It was one of those years when everybody respected the Super Bowl MVP and agreed in unison that he deserved to win it all. However, is Jalen Hurts the face of the NFL? That is a complicated question to answer. The athlete who is widely regarded as the most recognizable by fans is regarded as the most popular in the league.

Not to discredit Hurts’ fame, but his positive traits are what ineligible to be the face of the league. The coverage given to Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce over the last few years has made them the most popular active players in the league. Since both negative and positive coverage result in views and heightened interest on the part of fans, the NFL has put out more content starring them across their media accounts.
Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift is another factor that has led to a surge in his popularity. Irrespective of being the new face of the NFL or not, Jalen Hurts is not losing sleep over that. The two rings on his fingers are all that matter most to him.
