There has been a sudden resurgence in the UFC light heavyweight division since former middleweight champion Alex Pereira claimed the 205-pound title. To become the new undisputed champion of this division, several fighters are now vying for his belt. Notable contenders include Magomed Ankalaev and Jamahal Hill, who have also engaged in some trash talk with each other.

In recent months, Magomed Ankalaev has made headlines for criticizing other fighters in the light heavyweight division. Most notably, former champion Jamahal Hill has been the recipient of Ankalaev’s remarks. Hill recently uploaded a video on his official YouTube channel in response to this criticism. In the video, the former champion didn’t hold back and highlighted Ankalaev’s ‘failure.’

Remember how you (Magomed Ankalaev) got a title shot, hear me? Given whenever the belt was vacant and you fumbled it… But who stepped up to the plate? Champ (myself) as you may call me, you’re not addressed as such, pipe down when you’re talking.

In November 2022, Jiri Prochazka vacated his UFC light heavyweight belt after defending it against Glover Texeira. Following that, the promotion booked Ankalaev against Jan Blachowicz for the 205-pound belt. However, that fight resulted in a draw and the Dagestani fighter missed his first opportunity at the UFC light heavyweight crown. This was what Hill alluded to.

Hill pointed out Ankalaev’s shortcomings while also emphasizing his own success in seizing his first title opportunity. ‘Sweet Dreams’ delivered one of his best performances, effectively neutralizing the former light heavyweight champion, Glover Teixeira, with a significant striking advantage.

Because of these accomplishments, Hill demands respect from Ankalaev and believes the Dagestani fighter should recognize him as a champion. While Hill critiqued Ankalaev harshly, the Dagestani fighter is still supporting Hill in his upcoming bout.

Magomed Ankalaev believes Jamahal Hill can put Jiri Prochazka to sleep

Jamahal Hill made his way to the UFC through the Dana White Contender Series and has an impressive fight record. Throughout his successful career in the UFC, Hill has primarily won his fights by knockout and has only lost twice in the promotion. For this reason, even his nemesis Magomed Ankalaev has expressed confidence in Hill for his upcoming fight.

According to several reports, Sweet Dreams is scheduled to fight Jiri Prochazka at UFC 311 in January 2025. After suffering two losses to Alex Pereira, Prochazka now has a significant opportunity to re-enter the title contender list. However, Ankalaev believes the Czech fighter would suffer a similar defeat as he faced against Pereira.

Hey why you (Jiri Prochazka) talk about me, 2 of your last 3 fights you went to sleep, Alex made you go to sleep but I will make Alex go to sleep and I believe Jamahal Hill will make you sleep also.

Interestingly, the recent comments from Ankalaev were in response to Prochazka’s derogatory remarks about the Dagestani fighter. With Pereira holding the championship title and fighters like Ankalaev, Hill, and Prochazka all vying for a title shot, the UFC light heavyweight division has become quite exciting. It remains to be seen who will secure a title opportunity first.
