Ja’Marr Chase and his Bengals teammates were ecstatic when Joe Burrow flipped the script and returned from his toe surgery earlier than expected. That gave hope for a late-season rally that could help them enter the playoffs.

After beating recovery timeline expectations, the QB made it clear that his team needed to win the AFC North if they wanted to make a return to the postseason.

When he led them to a famous Week 13 win against the Baltimore Ravens, Bengals fans and the players had a sense of hope, as they felt their signal caller would lead them to the promised land.

Two weeks later, against the same opponent, the Bengals have officially been eliminated from playoff contention. However, the matter that has become the single-biggest talking point before, during, and after the game was Joe Burrow’s mindset and his future.

If I’m being honest, I’ve never been in a situation with him where I’ve had to uplift him. But going forward, I might need to because he does it for me. You never know what he might be going through. I might need to start doing that.

Ja”Marr Chase told reporters

This was the superstar wideout’s response when asked if he was going to try to speak to his QB and figure out if everything was alright. Then later, another reporter asked him if they were going to talk about the 0-24 blowout loss at the hands of the Ravens.

To this, the LSU star replied that he and Burrow might ‘kick a chair’ and have a heart-to-heart conversation. But he was sure they were not going to talk about football.

Joe Burrow deflects blame from Bengals

After speaking with Ja’Marr Chase, reporters gathered in the Bengals’ media room to ask questions and listen to Joe Burrow. When a reporter asked the Iowa native if he felt confident in the Bengals coaching staff as well as the front office, Burrow replied,

I know how hard people work at it. We’ve got the right people. It starts with players playing better, and today was me.

Joe Burrow replied

He essentially took the blame for this 0-point show against a division rival, at home. Hearing this, another reporter then asked him if the team had enough or the right personnel in place to win in football, the 29-year-old replied with another finger pointed at himself.

This is a team effort. At the end of the day, players have got to play better on the field. Today was me. I’ve got to be better.

Joe Burrow replied

It seems he wanted to take the spotlight off the Cincinnati Bengals, who have been facing some negative heat of late. Many claim that the franchise’s mismanagement has led to its QB looking disinterested in the game and possibly contemplating retiring.

Joe Burrow clarifies his stance after recent ‘depressed’ comments

Reporters understood that Joe Burrow was intentionally deflecting the narratives about his team. After those twisted questions, one asked if his ‘depressed’ comments were about the Bengals’ franchise and their mistakes.

My comments had nothing to do with Cincinnati. My comments had everything to do with me and my mindset and football.

Joe Burrow replied

This should probably end all conversations surrounding the Bengals franchise which has not built a quality team around their superstar signal-caller. However, this could also open up a new narrative, as it was clear that Burrow was diplomatic in his answers.

The franchise’s history is littered with a lack of investments, and even though the source has deflected those conversations, his words may not stop analysts and former players from continuing to take shots at the Bengals.
