Ja’Marr Chase has taken the internet by storm following the Sunday Night Football game, but not for the 70-yard drive he pulled off, but over a bizarre touchdown celebration, sparking a mist of amusement and controversy.

The action unfolded in the third quarter of the game against the Los Angeles Chargers when the Bengals were aiming to close the gap on a 6-27 lead by the opponents. On the fourth-and-goal, quarterback Joe Burrow completed a four-yard pass to the star wide receiver. Although considering the Chargers’ lead in the third quarter, the pass was rather disappointing.

However, Chase stunned everyone when he made a NSFW gesture to celebrate the touchdown, by placing the ball on the ground before him. He then kneeled and reached behind him to grab what appeared to be a towel and wiped the ball from back to front.

While it remains a question of whether the NFL will fine Chase for his ‘inappropriate’ gesture, this isn’t the first time NFL fans have seen something like this. Former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. attempted similar antics during a game of the 2005 NFL season. He wiped the ball, burped it, and laid it down for a nap like an infant.

Despite the Bengals’ struggle with a 4-7 record, the 24-year-old wideout has been in his best form leading the league in both yards (981) and touchdowns (10) till Week 11.

Ja’Marr Chase deflects responsibility to coach Zac Taylor for Bengals’ seventh loss

The Bengals suffered their seventh loss of the season on Sunday, making their playoff hopes more distant each week. However, they let another victory slip away, that being their sixth loss this season because of a single possession.

When asked about his team’s struggle to complete plays, the three-time Pro Bowler seemed to have deflected responsibility onto head coach Zac Taylor

I play football on the field. I don’t call plays for us, you know? So I can’t really do nothing. It don’t really matter how good I perform at the end of the day. Putting up all them numbers and losing is not good.

At present, the Bengals’ winning percentage is tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-9) at .143 in one-score games, which is the lowest rate in the league, as per ESPN. The Bengals are now headed for the next game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 1, possibly their only chance to redeem themselves.
