Jameis Winston’s first start for the Cleveland Browns had everything. A seven-minute drive in the beginning, several near-picks from Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, silly drops, acrobatic catches, and even a homage to Eminem.
After five straight defeats and losing Deshaun Watson, the Browns had to call upon Winston, who so often in the past has been the savior of teams he has been part of. It was the scenario during the early Sunday kickoff in Cleveland.
Even though the Ravens led ¾th of the fixture, the home team for once never looked down and out. In fact, Winston rallied his teammates and connected with Cedric Tillman for a couple of touchdowns as the game ended 29-24.
Winston finished the day with 27 completions from 41 attempts for 334 yards and 3 touchdowns. This was the first time since Joe Flacco, a Browns quarterback, threw over 300 yards. Watson never managed to cross that threshold despite playing 19 games in three years.
CBS Sports’ on-field reporter Amanda Balionis caught up with the veteran quarterback and asked for a quick reaction to his first start since 2020. Before answering anything, Winston thanked the Almighty for the opportunity.
After that, he recited a few verses of ‘Lose Yourself’ from the ‘Rap God’ Eminem himself.

Kevin Stefanski praises Jameis Winston’s performance
Wins in Cleveland are a rare phenomenon, and beating a divisional rival as strong as the Ravens had remained a pipe dream for a long time. The Baltimore franchise has won six of their last ten fixtures against Sunday’s opponents, but the difference maker was undeniably Winston’s tenacity.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski was pleased with the 30-year-old journeyman’s efforts.
Despite the win, the Browns have a long season ahead. If they wish to play post-season football, then win at least eight of the remaining nine games and pray that other teams play poorly. For now, their chances of reaching the playoffs are a mere 3.2%.
