The Cleveland Browns signed Jameis Winston in the offseason as cover for Deshaun Watson. Once their starting QB went down, it was the veteran’s time to shine. He briefly did shine as he led the team to two wins out of four.

Those wins gave the Browns hope of a repeat of last year’s playoff push. But the last three losses have forced the Browns to rethink their quarterback position. They have three games left and could possibly end up at the bottom of the league standings. With Winston throwing eight interceptions to six touchdowns, it made the decision easier.

The Cleveland Browns elected to bench Jameis Winston and promoted Dorian Thompson-Robinson to take over their most important position. The usually positive 30-year-old was asked by reporters inside the Browns locker room on how he took the benching.

It’s challenging anytime you are a competitor. I definitely feel like I showed enough that I am capable of being a starter in this league. However, there are some things that, is important for me to get fixed.

Jameis Winston to reporters

The former Pro-Bowler added that he wants to see this season through with the Cleveland Browns. That means, to do whatever he can in his position to help the team perform at their best. He did not explicitly say he will help mentor Dorian Thompson-Robinson, but it expected of the veteran to do that.

Jameis Winston reiterated that he is capable of playing as a starter but admitted that he needs to fix his mistakes. His reputation of throwing picks received more fuel in the form of those eight interceptions. But he wants to fix them and continue playing.

Jameis Winston to bide his time as Dorian Thompson-Robinson takes over

This is not the first time Dorian Thompson-Robinson will start for the Cleveland Browns. Last season, he started three games for the Browns. In those games, he finished with 440 yards but was part of a 1-2 record.

But more tellingly, his four interceptions to one touchdown raised concerns about his ability to play in the NFL. It seems head coach Kevin Stefanski feels the 25-year-old should get another shot to try and prove himself.

Their last three games are against the Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins and the Baltimore Ravens. With their current form, it is possible they could lose all three games. But the franchise might want to see if they could pin their hopes on Thompson-Robinson.

For Jameis Winston, his patience should work for him, as if the young QB struggles, he will likely be asked to return to start. Sitting on the bench might work out for the Alabama native as he looks to continue being on a roster next season.
