Up until the time Deshaun Watson went down with an injury, Cleveland Browns fans were looking forward to better performances for the once Pro-Bowler QB. But as soon as an injury forced him off the field, the crowd at Huntington Bank Field booed him heavily. Those boos, however, drew responses from Browns players such as Myles Garrett, and Jameis Winston.
Garrett made his point in slamming Browns fans in his post-game presser. Jameis Winston backed that up with a seemingly strong opinion of his own.
Jameis Winston was emotional when talking about his fallen teammate. Especially with the response from the crowd seemingly made him end up in tears.

Powerful statement. pic.twitter.com/jcwZYx6U35
He emotionally pointed out that the public perception of Watson’s previous shenanigans should not have an impact when the said person suffers a possible season-ending injury. As it suggests, fans have an ill feeling towards him. Deshaun Watson went down in the first half of the game against the Cincinnati Bengals with an apparent Achilles tear.
That injury should see him out for the season, as it usually requires months to recover. But for Cleveland Browns fans, their boos were a combination of what they have endured with him starting and his legal troubles.
Fans launch a scathing attack on Jameis Winston for supporting Deshaun Watson
Those legal troubles have been too much for fans to handle, as they feel it has affected the performances of their starting quarterback ever since he came to the team. Those performances see the Browns looking like the worst team in the league. That is, despite all the talent at their disposal.
The frustrations became apparent as a leading receiver, and generally one of the quieter stars in the game in Amari Cooper seeking a trade away.
For Jameis Winston to then support him wholeheartedly was too much for fans. They feel he was gaslighting Deshaun Watson despite all his troubles. Below are examples of such comments on social media;

Deshawn Watson scammed us and Cleveland out of 230 million sorry for his injury but it’s best to part ways with him

That sounds great and good for Jameis but Deshaun has brought every bit of this on himself, his actions on and off the field has made him the most unlikable player in the NFL

I don't wish injury on Deshaun it was the Browns that should never have signed him… Ever

Soldiers and police put their lives on the line every day. To say a guy works hard – ok- I get it but Jameis is a bit over the top here with the life on the line every day thing.

The crazy thing is, the "fans" who say they're booing him or cheering and celebrating his injury because of his off field issues, would be cheering their heart out for him (ignoring those existing issues) if he was playing well helping us win.

I love Jameis, but Deshaun doesn’t deserve defending

It will be interesting to see how Jameis Winston fares as the backup QB.
If he plays well and the Browns improve, fans will demand the team to let go of Watson. It will be the second time in two years that backups have played better than the beleaguered quarterback.
