The long-awaited John Cena series Peacemaker is all set to debut its second season. The DC Studios CEO James Gunn confirmed in a recent post on X that the WWE icon-starring series is coming to Max this summer on August 21. James wrote that he’s done with the post-production and he’s counting the days until ‘Peace’ on ‘Earth.’

In a follow-up, Cena also took to his social media to promote the project’s release. He iterated that the Peacemaker cast has a special place in his heart and that he loved filming the soon-debuting season. With that being said, in two weeks time, the 47-year-old has a date with history. The wrestler-turned-actor will take on Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE title on WrestleMania Sunday.

If Cena manages to strip the title off Rhodes, no pun intended, he’d become a 17-time world champion in WWE. By doing so, The Cenation Leader will trump Ric Flair‘s long-standing record of sixteen world title reigns as recognized by WWE. The Nature Boy has already announced that he’d be in attendance to witness the Cena/Rhodes clash.

In a recent Raw promo, John talked about making people forget Flair’s exploits after he does the unprecedented at WrestleMania. Ric was quick to clap back in a TMZ-conducted interview. Naitch believes that turning Cena into a bad guy was the coolest thing WWE could’ve done. It allows Cena to do something that he hadn’t done since ditching the Doctor of Thuganomics in 2003.

John Cena’s Backlash 2025 appearance to shatter 16-year-long streak

Whether he gets it done at WrestleMania or not, John Cena is scheduled for multiple WWE dates after the two-night spectacle in Las Vegas. Most notably, The Franchise Player will be a part of this year’s Backlash PLE. In what could come across as a shock to many of his fans, the Ricky Stanicky star hasn’t made a single appearance at the said premium live event since 2009.

Back then, he wrestled Adam Copeland, fka Edge, for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Last Man Standing, where Cena lost the title. However, almost sixteen years later, John will step into the Backlash territory in St. Louis, the hometown of one of his greatest rivals, Randy Orton.

Because both these veterans are featured for the May-slated event, the fans are already dreaming about their potential encounter. It can’t be ruled out completely. The Viper could be an ideal first opponent for The Cenation Leader if he does enter Backlash 2025 as the WWE Champion. John is already more than three months into his WWE farewell tour. There’s only a handful of time left before he calls it quits on his illustrious wrestling career by the end of this year.

Cody Rhodes reveals what real-life disagreement he had with John Cena

Last Monday on WWE Raw in London, John Cena tried to verbally disintegrate Cody Rhodes. One of Cena’s biggest pet peeves with The American Nightmare was that he stole every secret he needed from Cena to be undeniable. It happened at a time when Cody used to drive the WWE legend from town to town.

Playing that element into his berating of Rhodes, the Hollywood mogul referred to the former AEW EVP as his chauffeur. John also asserted that Cody’s too polished and perfect, raising red flags about his authenticity.

While it may have been a scripted way to talk down on The Prodigal Son, the latter recently made a revelation on Pardon My Take that he did have a backstage disagreement with John over authenticity. In hindsight, WWE decided to bring it up during the widely acclaimed war of words between Cena and Rhodes on national television.
