New York Giants left tackle James Hudson committed four penalties on a single opening drive against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday (September 14), but was not surprisingly ejected. The Giants still managed a field goal on the unusual 16-play, 110-yard possession, which ended with a 38-yard kick from Graham Gano.
Hudson drew two unnecessary roughness calls and two false starts. One foul came when he struck Dallas defender James Houston on the helmet. Despite the repeated infractions, officials kept Hudson in the game until head coach Brian Daboll chose to bench him. The Giants replaced Hudson with rookie Marcus Mbow, a 2025 fifth-round pick from Purdue.
Hudson showed visible frustration after being benched. Daboll did not comment immediately on whether the team will discipline him further. The Giants face ongoing concerns at left tackle with starter Andrew Thomas still sidelined by injury.

According to CBS Sports Research, Hudson is the first NFL player since at least 2000 to record four penalties on the same drive. League rules allow referees to eject a player for flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct or repeated personal fouls, making the decision to let him stay a notable surprise.
The Giants began the game with six penalties overall, one on the opening kickoff and five on that first possession. The constant flags pushed the offense backward even as it maintained possession, forcing extra plays to regain yards lost to penalties.
Hudson, 26, joined New York this season after four years with the Cleveland Browns. The former Cincinnati Bearcat was drafted by Cleveland in the fourth round in 2021 and has started 19 games in 51 career appearances.
The Dallas Cowboys defeat the New York Giants in overtime induced high-scoring thriller
The Dallas Cowboys picked up their first win of the season as the Giants suffered yet another loss. The Giants and the Cowboys traded the lead a few times with each other before finishing 40-37 in overtime.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth spectacle. The teams combined for five go-ahead touchdowns in the final 12 minutes. Dak Prescott put Dallas ahead with a 6-yard scoring pass to George Pickens with 52 seconds left. Giants quarterback Russell Wilson answered by finding Malik Nabers for a 48-yard touchdown, reclaiming a 37-34 lead with just 25 seconds remaining.
Prescott then drove Dallas far enough for Aubrey’s clutch 64-yard kick to force overtime. The 64-yarder tied Aubrey in the third position with Matt Prater, second to the controversial former Ravens’ kicker Justin Tucker’s 66 yards, and his own 65 yards.

In the extra period, the Giants appeared poised for a winning drive but faltered when Wilson launched a risky deep ball under heavy pressure. Safety Donovan Wilson intercepted at the Dallas 30-yard line, giving the Cowboys’ new life. Prescott’s 14-yard scramble set up Aubrey to strike gold once again as the time expired.

Wilson finished with 450 passing yards and three touchdowns in a standout performance, while Prescott threw for multiple scores and managed the key late drives. Despite New York’s explosive offense, Dallas’ composure in crunch time extended its dominance in the rivalry.
The win pushed Dallas to nine straight victories over the Giants, the NFL’s longest active divisional streak. It also improved quarterback Dak Prescott’s record to 14-0 against New York since losing twice as a rookie in 2016.
