The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t have a good start to the 2024 NFL season, as they fell to a 10-16 defeat against the New York Patriots. And after seeing the disappointing match, James Jones didn’t shy away from expressing his bold and unfiltered opinion about the quarterback Joe Burrow.
In the recent episode of Fox Sports’ The Facility, sports analyst James credited the Bengals’ top receiving squad for the team’s elite status, especially for the success of Burrow in the league. He argued, that without the “top elite wide receivers,” Burrow is an average quarterback ahead of his upcoming matchup against his biggest rivals and the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs.
We should be nervous and I think it’s time to like, we got to start keeping it real for Joe Burrow.James Jones said on Thursday
James argued that the Bengals signal-caller is not playing good football and dismissed the notion that he is arguably considered the second-best quarterback in the league.
Joe Burrow has not been good, man, the last two years. And starting off this season, he ain’t been good. He was five and five last season and then went out with an injury, all right? Joe Burrow without top elite WRs is average. He is. But we keep, for real, but we keep living off of the Super Bowl appearance, but we don’t live on other stuff for other QBs.James Jones added
Although James wasn’t alone in criticizing Burrow, as after the injury concerns about the quarterback, Chris Canty also joined in saying he is going to sell all his stocks in him.
Joe Burrow’s health under scrutiny after lackluster performance
After the embarrassing loss to New England, Cincinnati is now preparing for a showdown against Kansas City in week 2. However, there might be some underlying concerns relating to the health concerns about Burrow’s wrist for which he underwent surgery. Though he claimed he is all healthy now, he seemingly struggled with his wrist on the football field in week 1.
A video has gone viral on the internet, where Burrow can be seen struggling to even pick up a bottle in his hand. Since then, his performance has come under scrutiny assuming it was affected because of his still not fully recovered wrist.
He only threw for 164 yards on 29 attempts and zero touchdowns as well as interceptions. Many fans have become more concerned since he refused to address any questions about his wrists but things might take a different turn if they fail to succeed in week 2 as well.
