“If Aaron Rodgers…” James Jones feels Joe Burrow doesn’t deserve a pass for Bengals’ 1-4 start to the season
James Jones believes the Bengals' quarterback Joe Burrow should not be given a pass for the team’s 1-4 start despite his impressive stats.

Last season, when the Cincinnati Bengals failed to clinch a spot in the playoffs, they were given a pass because star quarterback Joe Burrow was benched due to his wrist injury. However, despite having him this season, they have sunken to the bottom of the AFC North.
Since Burrow recovered and promised to remind everyone of his abilities as a quarterback, the team as well as fans had set high expectations. But their situation seems to be worsening with each passing week as they hold a 1-4 season record. Even though individually Burrow’s performance has been solid with 1,370 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 73.6 QBR, sports analyst James Jones believes he should not be given a pass for the team’s 1-4 start.
In the recent episode of The Facility, Jones asserted that Burrow shouldn’t be given any special status because of his great reputation and individual stats, especially when veteran quarterback and his former teammate Aaron Rodgers became subject to scrutiny over a 2-3 start.
The former NFL star-turned-analyst asked his colleagues whether Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson would have received a pass if they recorded a 1-4 season start. He supported his argument by referencing his colleagues’ “no” responses to the above question, saying if all these wouldn’t get a pass, then Burrow shouldn’t either.
James Jones claimed Joe Burrow’s stats shouldn’t shield him from criticism after poor start
The FOX Sports analyst addressed the defense used by his colleagues to give Burrow a pass for the poor start– his impressive stats. Jones claimed that the best quality in the Bengals’ quarterback was winning games and criticized his fumble as a “losing play” against the Kansas City Chiefs, despite the 258 yards and two touchdowns.
Jones hinted that Burrow made some very serious mistakes in all four losses, which were shielded behind his 200+ stats. He claimed that the main job description of a quarterback is to win games but the Bengals’ signal-caller isn’t at his best.
