Last season, after failing at the AFC championship game, Lamar Jackson claimed he’s got a chip on his shoulder to prove his doubters wrong. But he once again failed to reach the Super Bowl despite having what could be considered the best opportunity of his career. And a former Super Bowl champion believes being the frontrunner for his third MVP was a complete waste.

In a bold statement on Fox Sports’ The Facility, James Jones labeled the Baltimore Ravens’ star quarterback’s 2024 campaign a “failure,” claiming that while Jackson’s individual success made him the favorite to win the NFL MVP is impressive, his inability to make it to the big game overshadowed his achievements, especially when he’s already done it before.

He has accomplished everything except getting to the Super Bowl… If Lamar Jackson was not a quarterback and he was Saquon Barkley or he was Ja’Marr Chase– a heck of a season because running backs and wideouts ain’t guaranteed off Super Bowl appearance. Lamar Jackson’s season was a failure because he did not get to the game and there ain’t no way around that.

As the discussion about Jackson’s legacy continues to unfold, fans and analysts alike are left pondering whether his individual accolades can truly compensate for the absence of the team’s success. Perhaps a roster revamp could do some good as the Ravens head towards it in the offseason, having several players’ futures in question.

Lamar Jackson takes blame for Ravens’ playoff exit

Though the two-time NFL MVP hasn’t been the only one to endure fans’ heat after the heartbreaking loss, he has been overly critical of his performance, believing there’s no one else to blame for the loss but himself. He expressed his frustration with himself after the costly fumble in the first half that significantly compromised Baltimore’s chances to succeed.

As you can see, we are moving the ball, wonderfully… Hold onto the f***ing ball. Sorry for my language but this s*** annoying. I’m tired of this s***. We are right there… I’m tired of being right there. We need to punch it in. We need to punch in that ticket.

Lamar Jackson said post-game

Even though they would have won if tight end Mark Andrews had caught the pass thrown by Jackson in the endgame, Jackson couldn’t find anyone but himself to blame. That’s why he has also given his blessing to Josh Allen to win the MVP award this season.
