Colombia find themselves in the semifinals of the 2024 Copa America after a dominant display in the group stages as well as the quarterfinals. The men in yellow have arguably played the most attractive and attacking football in the competition. At the heart of their success is James Rodriguez, a name made familiar ever since the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The 32-year-old currently captains his side and will be up against Uruguay in the semifinal. Rodriguez is in red hot form, having won the Player of the Match award in all four of the games he’s played at the tournament.

The player has one goal and a whopping five assists to his name and he is the top assist provider at the tournament. Rodriguez’s performances for the national team have many reminiscing the 2014 World Cup, where a 22-year-old Rodriguez ran the show for Colombia.

That being said, his country will need him the most against Uruguay, who booked their spot by eliminating five time world champions Brazil.

Colombia thrash Panama to book semi-final spot

Colombia have been one of the most exciting sides at the 2024 Copa America. Los Cafeteros have only let in two goals at the tournament, while having scored an impressive eleven. Their most recent game ended in a 5-0 victory against 43rd ranked Panama as as Luis Diaz, James Rodriguez and others grabbed the goals.

Jhon Cordoba opened the scoring for Colombia in the 8th minute, after expertly meeting an inviting corner from Rodriguez. The captain then doubled their lead, after perfectly placing a penalty kick past Orlando Mosquera. Liverpool man Diaz grabbed the third from a smartly finished ball over the keeper. Mosquera was well out of his line and Diaz confidently lifted the ball up and over him to make it 3-0.

Richard Rios fired in from afar to put daylight between the two sides as the scoreboard read 4-0. With just minutes left to play, Miguel Borja put the final nail in the coffin for Panama, as he stepped up over Rodriguez to comfortably beat Mosquera from twelve yards out. With their incredible form at the Copa, fans believe that they are the team to beat at the tournament.
