Jamie Carragher takes a swipe at Aubameyang
There is always a lot of criticism happening in club football. Some might be constructive whereas some might be destructive too. In one of the constructive criticism by former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Carragher said that Arsenal may face the Mesut Ozil situation once again at Emirates. The veteran central defender cautioned Arsenal about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s poor form at Emirates since he signed the new contract.
What did Jamie Carragher say?
Talking on-air, Jamie Carragher said:
I think there will be a big worry at Arsenal and for Mikel Arteta that they may have another Mesut Ozil situation where they give someone a big contract at £300,000 or £350,000-a-week. Good luck to him, but you’ve got to justify that
The Gabonese international was offered a new contract in the summer of 2020 owing to his stupendous performances on the pitch. The former Borussia Dortmund star has 76 G/A to his name at Emirates in 110 games for Arsenal. However, the player has found it difficult to hit the top-gear in the ongoing season as he has 10 G/A in 22 starts for the team. Moreover, the disciplinary issues are brewing up in the dressing room, causing the headache for Mikel Arteta.
The player reported late for the most crucial North London Derby in March but Mikel Arteta decided to punish the player for his indiscipline. The player was dropped from the game. Moreover, Mikel Arteta was with a huge sigh of relief as he came unscathed against Jose Mourinho. However, the player’s poor form and wasting of chances cost Arsenal the game against Liverpool in the Premier League. The team was on the verge of getting eliminated in the Europa League once again if not for the first-leg advantage. In both games, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang failed to justify his performance for Gunners.
It is not so long before Mikel Arteta might arrive at a solution. Aubameyang earns £300,000 a week and it is a cause of concern for the outfit. It remains interesting to see how Arteta responds and handles the situation at Emirates.
